| | | Re: Crocheted plastic bags Well the whole idea was to re-use them instead of them blowing around the countryside hanging off trees etc.We don't choose the bag, we cut the strips and put them in a bag and take a strip out when we need then. The bags are varied in size and are very strong so can be used for a long time. They are popular here in Exmouth not only are we recycling the carriers but people are buying them and this in turn is helping the homeless and our group for people with mental heath problems to have somewhere to go for support free tea ,biscuits, have their clothes washed and get a shower and also advice and help to get some off the streets. Each bag is unique as we also use bread bags and the patterns are really nice. Also black backs are used to. So there are hundreds of bags being reused instead of floating around the streets. Often carrier bags from supermarkets are pretty thin and useless to go shopping with again so what better use than being knitted and crocheted into strong useful bags again. I thought that's what recycling was all about |

This was something an old lady in her 80's thought up and it is very successful not only in recycling the plastic bags but something quite different and very pretty. They no longer look like carrier bags and are strong and useful. |

| | | Re: Crocheted plastic bags A friend of mine has been doing something similar, but knitting them instead of crocheting. The end result was amazingly strong and looked suprisingly funky.
I'd be interested to see your pics |
