| | | Rubbish mounting up Our general rubbish wheelie bin hasn't been emptied for three weeks now (usually fortnightly) and it's nearly full, we only put food packaging in it! Lord knows how families are coping, there are already black sacks littering the road, an open invitation to rattus. I understand the pavements are dangerous but with suitable footwear they are safe, why not issue the bin men with those strap on spikes you can get off QVC? |

| | | Re: Rubbish mounting up We've had our green bin and recycling out since last thursday but it still hasn't been collected, but since the roads haven't been blocked I'm not sure why.
At least Tesco's made it through |

| | | Re: Rubbish mounting up Our rubbish and recycled stuff was collected last week apart from the glass which we have to put in a plastic box. Apparently all the blue boxes were frozen to the ground so the crews were unable to lift them. It must have been cold! |

HELP!!!! | I've seen a couple of helicopters going over, Kayleigh - just hang on in there, they may be airlifting some food parcels over to you
My black bin is still outside from last week, only now I bet when they come to collect it will be for the brown bins ... so will be another week before the black one is collected .. oh, who knows, it will all get so confused, I bet .. and meanwhile the place looks a right old mess

| | | Re: Rubbish mounting up Well the black bin collection happened as normal, but it looks like the recycling collection has just been forgotten about - typical council
I wonder what would happen if I said I couldn't pay an installment of my council tax because of the snow |

| | Re: Rubbish mounting up ello
Im not sure where the best place is to discuss this...but my concerns are with excess food packaging...it drives me nuts, not to mention the logistical issues of disposal etc.
I wondered if the old system of pay per kilo would get around much of this and wondered if anyone had any thoughts!? years ago in the UK these places were called 'Fine Fare' if anyone remembers!!?
I realise its ceased existence might be simply Health & Hygiene issues but then there are alot of loose produce all over markets pic n mix areas etc.!
There are plenty of small businesses taking the recycling baton and allowing you to refill containers etc. if this was on a larger scale I can't see this being too umanageable as society has fairly successfully managed to adapt to BYO Bags in most stores. This would certainly have a massive impact on recycling bins and the need for such ridiculously big ones that can hardly fit down the narrow passageway that adjoins our house...this is by the way to avoid a £75 fine....
Anybody have any thoughts? this is where somebody with money, passion and influence aka 'a Jamie Oliveresque' can take up this cause and runaway with it all the way to No.10, thereby allowing me to nip to my local 'Fine Fare/??' next week and not have to hump a bin the size of me round my house......
Now I am feeling a little bad as two streets away they actually don't have any recycling facilities....different borough....and don't start me on that one!! |

| | | Re: Rubbish mounting up I would like to see a system where the customer can actually see how much they are paying for the packaging.
I would happily buy all my meat and fruit and veg loose and just wrapped in brown paper or placed in a paper bag.
Some of the cartons and packaging that goods are wrapped in nowadays require a degree in burglary to open
