| | | Village Jumble Sales I've just returned home laid-en with clothes from one of the surrounding villages Jumble sales. I've been to a few Jumbles in my lifetime but never one as quite as the one I went to today, you could of heard a pin drop. There was know more than forty people there, there was know pushing and shoving, It was all very civilised. I found loads of nice clothes, wasn't really looking for anything else. Found Lightweight trousers t.shirts and a Regatta fleece all in very good condition which are being washed this very minute. I buy most of my clothes from Charity shops Boot Fairs or Jumble Sales apart from underwear and the occasional pair of shoes, I don't see any point in spending huge amounts of money on clothes, I let others do that then when they get bored of It and It ends up at a Jumble sale I'll buy It for 20p, It's laughable what people get rid of just because of Fashion. Without clothes we'd all be equal. Anyone else like a good old rummage at a Jumble. |

| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales I've just returned from a Christmas charity fair in aid of a local hospice with some amazing bargains from the the craft stalls.
Tho it didn't resemble any of the jumbles we organised as Girl Guides where the local ladies would queue for ages outside and then elbow each other out of the way in the charge to the stalls! lol! |

| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales Came home with 19 items one of which is now in my RagBag as the neckline was shabby, gave one item away as It doesn't fit and all other items are drying. One of my best ever Finds at a Jumble Sale many years ago Is a Set of Ebony and Ivory Dominoes, It was the Tin that they were In that I was really interested In, didn't realise until I got home that they were genuine, spent the last twelve years looking for a genuine Domino Box and still looking. |

| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales don't do many jumble sales but 90% of my clothes are from charity shops and I would say 100% of the books we have , and I'm talking in the 100s , running out of space! are charity shop finds. Oh and Cds especially classical.
As you say amazing what people give away, but makes me happy. One of my bargains in the summer was a mac (label from posh P U label from M&S) £10 nearly £70 in original shop in the spring made my day.
I love paying £2-£10 for all these brand label goods and the money goes to a good cause.
nMust say that I have noticed lately that more and more people are coming into charity shops getting my bargains

| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales If I made a movie they would have at the end, "Mr Mabbott's costumes by OXFAM"! Used to be Save the Children but that closed. However, I am sriously concerned at the decline of quality in charity shops over the twelve months: you don't get the good stuff that you used!
Having had an attack of moths on the suit and coat (that I had intended to be my last ) have needed to start buying clothes again - but the good stuff is no longer there.
- not in Sheffield at least ... Quote:

We each keep about half a dozen tied in a piece of muslin in our wardrobes and, so far, no moths. Worth a try, but maybe a bit late this year to find fresh ones! |

- not in Sheffield at least ... | It must all be in the midlands.... got today in my local heart foundation shop designer jeans from debin....s £2.95! No Problems here in fact i would say the opposite the charity shops have caught onto the designer label and even put special labels on to show them a little more to pay but a fraction of the original price

| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales I like boot and jumble sales, main targets are books and good picture frames
I usually come home with more than I take, all good fun
Have you noticed the professionals that arrive at boot sales now and try to buy before the sale starts some of them are very pushy
