| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales 'Have not been to a jumble for years and years. In fact I wasn't aware they existed any longer, assuming charity shops had overtaken that market. I love charity shops, although am rapidly going off the type that stock mostly new, mass produced tat instead of other people's cast-offs .
Best thing I ever bought at a jumble has to be antelope horns, attached to a nice piece of hard wood. They still hang in my parent's house. I would have got the pair, but some bloke down the other end of the table picked the others up at the same time as me and neither of us relented, so we ended up with one each. Wonder if his are still going strong?

| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales I wonder like that sometimes Dutchess...
I still wear an original Duffel Coat ( you know, Made In England sort with Union Jack Label ) and I feel very proud whenever I wear It Knowing that I paid about 10p for It over 10 years ago and I love telling a little story about my Duffel Coat and It goes like this...
New Years Day 2002 I was just leaving a Club in London called The Whirl-y-gig, the Venue was at Kings Cross. I had a lovely evening dancing away to the sounds of D.J Monkey Pilot with special guest's Banco de Gaia, my all time favourite Band, well was Band but now he's a D.j and a Jolly good one may I add. Anyway, here I am on NYE leaving the Club with my faithful old Duffel coat with hood up walking in the direction of my car when I heard this voice say " Hey there " turned my head round to see a chap on the other side of the road and he said " You shopping for business " I wasn't shocked as Kings Cross at the time had a bad reputation for this sort of behaviour so I just said, " No, Happy New Year to you " and with that we waved at each other and I carried on walking to my car. What's so funny about this story Is I had my Duffel Coat on and there's nothing attractive about It at all, this chap couldn't see one inch of me as everything was hidden behind the bulk of the Duffel coat... I thinks he thought I was a Man |

Sounds great to me too, BloomingMarvellous - although the possibility of bumping into Nigella, after what she has just said, would be a more frightening and offputting thought! |

| | | Re: Village Jumble Sales Slightly off topic...If you are wont to leave your unwanted clothing in a poly bag at the door for Sally Army or similar ....fine.
But try to make sure the right people get them.I work on markets and car boots and a lot of the second hand clothing traders buy their gear from gangs of thieves that travel round swiping these bags before the genuine charities arrive.
The same with those carefully worded leaflets asking for cast offs to go to Rumania etc.If there isn't an official charity number on the leaflet, the nearest they get to the poor in Eastern Europe is a car boot. |

You can mix them with dried things like cloves, rosemary, lavender, rose buds, lemon peel, mint, etc to get a smell you like. You can have fun trying different mixtures.
Just cut out cirles of material or use the toe of a popsock, fill with your chosen mixture and tie the top of the sachet with ribbon or an elastic band and put in your closet or drawer.
