| | | Re: Cleaning up after your dog Yes I am a dog owner and yes I always clean up after mine, But lets all hang on here yes dog mess is bad but what about litter? . All manner of rubbish gets thrown from cars and dropped by people. Cigarette ends are to me more disgusting than doggy poo but they are all over the pavements now because people cant smoke indoors. and for every pile of doggy poo there are 5 discarded plastic drinks bottles .
Yes I agree people who dont scoop are selfish but most owners are responsible but I bet its a higher percentage of the population that drop litter ,fag ends and rubbish.

| | | Re: Cleaning up after your dog Owners allowing their dogs to mess and not clear up afterwards is one of my pet hates. (pun intended)
I live in a hamlet and enjoy walking
Every time we have a newcomer they bring cats and dogs with them. The cats come and kill things in the garden and the dogs are walked through the village and lanes and allowed (by the owners) to foul anywhere and they seldom clear up afterwards. The deposits outside the gate is worst you don't always see it. These are all people with lots of money, big houses and big cars.
Maybe the more money you have the less you worry about the fines that could be imposed. That is assuming there is someone to outlaw the people responsible in such an unpopulated area.
Inconsideration seems to be rife in all walks of life (pun not intended) whether poor or rich, brainless or intellectual, I see all types guilty of this particular perpetration of crime (dog mess I mean)
I can't think what is the best solution but maybe if we keep talking and spilling out ideas we may come across the very thing that may well work to put a stop to this activity!!! |

| | | Re: Cleaning up after your dog i can never understand why people can be bothered to take a bag with them, bother to bend down and pick it up, tie it then chuck it somewhere!
I have an Alsatian and i can;t say he does the smallest of messes and yet i still feel the need to pick it up. fortunately he's well trained and nearly always goes in the same area, seems to associate the red bins we have near us as a cue lol. doesnt half make life easier!! |

| | | Re: Cleaning up after your dog I'm a dog owner and a flipping responsible one at that!!I won't leave the house without poo bags in my pocket and always pick up after my 2 dogs......yeh it's annoying when you pick up after your dog, like the law tells you too, only to find there isn't a bin for miles!! Yeh I'm a dog fan but I don't enjoy carrying bags of poo around with me.....but.....i chose to have dogs so I'll carry it anyway, until i find a bin, because it's my responsibility!!! In my local park I also see poo bags in bushes and hanging from trees..it's disgusting!!why, why,do people do that!!!
I completely agree with bringing dog licensing back, and it should bloody cost you as well!! i work with dogs and the amount of people i come across that don't deserve a dog in the first place...it makes me so cross!! Yeh bring licensing back, make it expensive to get one as well!If people moan that they can't afford it,they shouldn't even consider getting a dog!Maybe it'll put off the irresponsible idiots! |

| | | Re: Cleaning up after your dog Instead of grouching about dog owners not cleaning up after their dogs, and I know that they're getting away with it this way, but this can't be helped, why not do what I do....Take 3 or 4 poo bags every time you take him out, and pick up after the other dogs too. After all, if these lazy owners see the place is clean, they're more likely to start picking up too. This also applies to the non-dog owners. If it's in your way, how about picking it up and disposing of it properly... it can't get there by itself and the dogs can't clean up after themselves without eating the stuff (if they can they're very clever )
Just thought I would sound this off on here

| | | Re: Cleaning up after your dog As I see it, there are two different issues for mess occurring in our towns and parks and that which we find on paths in the countryside. In towns and parks I would expect councils to provide bins and dog owners to collect any mess in a bag and pop it in a bin. However in the countryside, one of the worst things a dog owner can do is collect the mess in a plastic bag because there is nowhere to put it. In the countryside the best option is to get a stick and flick the mess off the path into the undergrowth, it will be gone in no time.
Unfortunately, the mixed messages people are receiving have led to owners collecting mess in bags and then tossing the bag to one side or hanging it in a tree. As a countryside warden I then come along with my strimmer and I think you can visualise the rest.

Annabel | Picking up other peoples dog muck is just going to encourage them even more not to bother,ie why do it yourself when someone else will come and do it.Unless, you know the owners address and go and dump it all on their lawn - they may get the message then

| | | Re: Cleaning up after your dog One of my favorite things ever is locking up one of my reserves in the dark. Upon walking back to my vehicle, it's like a minefield. I love it when I step in a fat dog egg then have to spend the next 15mins scraping it out of my boot with a stick. But I rarely clean all of it off as it is dark or there is some residue left. Then I like sitting in my car, treading it into my pedals and upholstry and sticking the heater on so it really makes my 45min drive home a fragrant one. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
