just read your thread plastic fantastic i think not this is very worrying as my hubby is being observed by hospital as they are trying to ensure he doesnt develop diabetees

Bisphenol A (BPA) has been picked out on numerous occasions. It can leach out of plastic bottles, but apparently at levels that won't do us any harm. It is used in pretty vast quantities as well.

That said, I have a suspicion that the observations of high urine BPA and diabetes/heart disease might well be due to an other factor, for which urine BPA levels simply act as a surrogate.

If you drank a lot of coke (all out of plastic bottles), you might have both high urine BPA and diabetes, both from drinking the same stuff but it may well not be the BPA that causes the diabetes. (I've no idea if you'd find it in coke, but many have found it in mineral water bottled in plastic, at low concentrations).

Personally I think that there are much bigger fish to fry, even in the world of nasty chemicals!
