Bham City Council-Refuse disgrace

Today Birmingham City refuse collectors came early and combined both recycleable materials with the landfill throughout the entire round. All glass & plastic (seperated by residents) went straight into the same cart with the landfill. What is the point in enforcing residents to comply when the council flout their responsibilities so openly. The collectors ignored my protests so I have contacted both the council and my local MP.

There was a strike mid-week so they decide to hit the streets today whilst overtime is at a premium rate.

Sounds a similar tale to when we went to our local recycling tip with our plastic bottles and cardboard and were told it didn't matter which skip we placed them in as it was all going to landfill

Although to be honest this was only the once but it does make you wonder what happens to all the things you take for recycling

I have contacted both the council and my local MP

- Well done, Veracocha. Let us know what response you get. Hopefully it was a one-off?

Typically, they claimed due to the delayed collection their concern was to clear the build up at all costs. Yes, they claimed it was a one off but I will be monitoring collections very varefully (Camera in hand) from now on. The Operations director (Mr Burke) commended me on my concern for the environment , at least he did respond which is more than my local MP or should that be EX Labour MP after today.

I find it ludicrous, that the recycling materials get taken every week and the non every other only to be told that the every other which becomes rancid and smelly goes to the land fills eventually and the recycling gets shipped off to China????! Whats that supposed to achieve
