Recycling in Cumbria

I live in Langdale in the heart of the beautiful English Lake District. Probably one of the most idyllic places to live and yes, I do know I am lucky. How can it be though that we have the most antiquated form of recycling system in the world! My parents in Nottingham get everything that can be recycled collected from their house and they pay far less council tax. We get paper and glass collected, that is it!

Antiquated and unfair. They put our council tax up then reduce our collection time to every fortnight and send leaflets round the doors encouraging us to recycle and take our glass, plastic bottles etc. to the recycling centre.
So we have to do the work of the binmen and also pay for the extra petrol to take the stuff away.
Oh! and the council sell the recyclable stuff and make a profit, which isn't passed on to us.

We're from Wigton in North Cumbria - Allerdale council. Because our house is out in the sticks and not in town we don't even get paper and glass collected - our council tax isnt any less. We do recycle and do our bit - inspite of the local council who will fine us if our bins are too full. Have to say though at least collections are still once a week!
