Dumped

Dumped, it’s on C4 this Sunday.
1st of 4 programmes where 11 volunteers are left stranded on a landfill site for 3 weeks. They must survive off waste material that they find.
Should highlight the amount of waste we dump. Let’s hope that the first thing they find is a bathtub !

Re: Dumped

I'll be watching. I'm amazed this programme got the go-ahead what with all the health and safety regulations that there are these days.

Apparently the contestants didn't actually know they were going to end up on a landfill site.

"The participants have willingly agreed to take part in a testing eco-challenge but they don't know where. Most have assumed that they will be dropped into a pristine natural environment like the Amazon rainforest or the Arctic. How will they react when they are delivered to a huge, smelly British landfill site where they are forced to make a home from other people's waste?"

Re: Dumped

I will be tuned into it, on paper it looks like it could be quite interesting.... But it could turn out as a total let down, it will depend on the contestants.

Re: Dumped

I'll be watching the first one at least but I hope it's not going to turn out to be another of Channel 4's 'reality tv' shows. As Kymba says, it depends on the contestants.

It didn't. They had to build a clean, tidy, sanitary pretend landfill site just for the series.

Their encampment sits in a landscape of specially constructed rubbish-hillocks, intersected by winding pathways, like the set of Teletubbies, but with garbage instead of grass. In fact, this is carefully chosen rubbish, representing a typical selection of British waste, but without the used nappies and putrefying food to be found on the real landfill near by. It also handily includes things like an old box of carpenter’s tools, plumbing pipes with snap-lock joints and a useful selection of dining chairs. - from Top of the tips - Times Online

Re: Dumped

It sounds like 'The Scrapheap Challenge', if someone said, " We need 3 miles of bungee elastic with a widget on the end ", they'd go out searching and find one!

I bet they end up building a shower !!

Re: Dumped

Defo gonna tune in for the first one, however, I'm a bit disappointed the stuff's been planted rather than random refuse. Maybe we could put people who don't recycle in a real one for short periods of time as an incentive

...am embarassed to say I will be attempting to fill the void that big brother has left

Re: Dumped

Smellovision. I have worked on the bins, you couldn't imagine the honk that comes from a land fill site for real!!! Respect to all dustmen or whatever your now known as. I have seen the lot but the best thing about working on the bins besides the tips was the 10 mile daily walk = 50 mile aweek! When was the last time you saw a overweight dustman? Not that i despise overweight pepes. I'm all good

Re: Dumped

i'm glad i wasn't the only one who watched this with disbalief and then switched it off in disgust at the rubbish (sorry) we are subjected to. sigh. i'm getting a wee bit bored of these take-some-peeps-and-put-them-somewhere-grim/pretty/isolated/tropical-and-watch-what-they-do programmes. this one is if anythign even worse than normal. supposedly green tv, but its really not. its more about the volunteers than anything remotely environmental. sigh.

Re: Dumped

I think part two's on tonight, I bet the viewing figures are down. The first part was a bit of a flop , I only watched half of it, perhaps it was an 'introduction'. I'll give part 2 a look, but I think they're scraping the barrel with this one.

What a cop-out! I was looking forward to seeing the contestants sifting through used nappies as well. I completely forgot it was on. Doesn't sound like I missed much though.
