| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk - 2012 Cheers for that, Katie. The itinerary is falling into place and I'm pretty well contend with it, but I've tried the B&B and youth hostel in Reeth and all fully booked up. looks like camping with the Laser Comp tent for the 5 nights of the rest of the walk, otherwise, it may of been the Vaude Bivvy. Not to worry, I will find another way of reducing the rucksack weight to 10kg. |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk - 2012 Thanks, Jan and Katie. Believe it or not, 10kg is really lightweight for back-packing. I knew of one coast er coaster, on the 2010 crossing, who must of been carrying the kitchen sink or somewhat. Poor sod, first lesson learned, it did learn a few tips from me and I'm still learning. |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk - 2012 I wouldnt be happy carrying more than 10kg on a day to day basis. Most of my sacks of animal food are 15-20kg, so I know what the weight is.
I could carry 20kg but not too far.... If it is possible to reduce the weight to 10kg or less, I'd do it!

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk - 2012 I think over the years of back-packing, I must of carried at least the total weight of 20kg. I do remember very fondly, when I did the Coast to Coast walk with the ex in 1991, on a very hot day from Reeth to Danby Wiske and the heat was enough to melt you, that the ex complained about lack of water, the weight of rucksack and so on. It was a long day of 24 miles and the terrain was pretty much very flat(ish) for that day. At Colburn, I was carrying 2 rucksack's, plus 4 cans of beer in there, I was fit as a dog on a good day and probably can still do it now, for I'm still very fit for my age, but it's my feet telling me
I did think about getting the luggage carrier service to lug my camping gear, but I can't help but think, it's sort of the easy way out. I just to love to take it out of my body. Anyway, I'm still sorting the gear out and hopefully sort it out. |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk - 2012 yes thats the point isn't it - you push your body while ever it will do something cos the glow in the mind afterwards is worth having! I've never had the fitness - not even when I was younger - for such exploits but I always wanted to and I still do walks now that are hard for me - well I did last back end - done nothing over winter and the weight has piled back on .... I need to start again and am also making plans to do some walks in an area not far from me - all circular - tho there is one long one straight line one that I;ve always wanted to do which needs a car at each end before setting off! Of course the other problem is my pack is somewhere between 20 and 30kilos depending on what equipment I wish to use I won;t go for a walk without the camera gear - I wouldn'nt be interested if there wasn't the chance to take photos! I doubt I will find time this year for much of it as despite making plans it doesn't take long for time to be swallowed up in less interesting matters! I keep trying to dodge the rubbish stuff but it keeps on finding me ... I keep thinking I;ve got stuff organised and can go awol then something else needs attention ... I wish I had a housekeeper!!!! Anyhow that list you have made is full of places I recognise having driven thro them - I go with you in spirit foxy and I hope its glorious weather for you

I was to a long seen mate, who was after bed and breakfast recommendation in Robin Hood's Bay, I only knew of a couple from reviews. Mate is walking the Coast to Coast in June, but using a bag carrier services and not camping.
I intend to carry my rucksack all the way and that is the challenge imho. |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk - 2012 Not long for the Coast to Coast, about 2 months to go. I wouldn't be on the forum that much, but I've a blog set up.
Of cause, once (hopefully) done, I will be posting lots of photo's on the blog and doing a report. Good news, I will be getting my new smart phone this week-end and will be mobile blogging on the walk, so will be updating the walk each day, but that depends on the signal. |

I'm not trying to put a damper on things and I spent 11 years on my own (before I had a mobile phone) and I relied on the old way of folk knowing where I was going and occasionally a note in the car (not left obvious but easy enough if the police finally broke into it) detailing directions. But all that aside have a great walk - you know I go with you in spirit and look forward to the pics and views
