I was not talking about electrified metal fences, but electric fencing purposely designed for cattle...Posie..  | It is entirely correct;- 12V is the battery voltage which in old fences is stepped up via a capacitor and in modern fences via a thyrisor.
I am talking about electric fencing for animal use - as supplied by rutland etc.
The voltage between fence and earth is in the (many)thousands, the amperage miniscule.
