| | Holiday Help. Lake District. Hi,
Wasn't sure where to post this so thought here might be good enough.
Me and my partner are looking to go away on holiday to the Lake District in August maybe and for the past few days I've just been getting more and more confused.
I'm looking for either cottage, caravans or something like that to stay in. But really more so just need help with what area to look at for what we want.
We love bird watching, be that woodland, lake and birds of prey, taking photographs of new birds and wildlife/bugs/dragonflies etc.
So we would really love any suggestions of an area to stay that would have a lot of that around it. We don't really want tourist places, something a little out of the way, lovely views and lots of nature and birds.
We only live near Blackpool so not going that far but we really need a good break away and want this to be a great one.
I don't even have a target area at the moment. But if I sit here any longer just Googling August will have come and gone
Any help or suggestions would be very gratefully received.
Thank you.

The Lake District can be quite congested in August. Have you considered Silverdale, it seems to have all the things that you like, plus the sea is on your doorstep.

| | | Re: Holiday Help. Lake District. Hi Willow! If you want out of the way, but central enough for visiting other places, then 'Blind Tarn', near Grasmere is truley wonderful (IMO). The cottage and it's converted barn are more than 400 hundred years old, set in open countryside below mountains and small waterfalls and has a stream that runs through the garden. Not cheap I guess but worth saving for. One of the highlights for me was that on a clear night, the skies were just so full of stars as there was no light pollution. The area is a photogapher's paradise and a walker's dream. They also allow dogs. Well worth looking up on t'internet Wizzo

| | Re: Holiday Help. Lake District. We go to the lake district every year and have tried a few places but we usually stick near by the lake Ullswater. The Green Barn in Yanwath (near Penrith) is a very nice place to stay and another fave is Hartsop fold lakeland lodges You can see Deer and Badgers and plenty more while staying in the log cabins and there are some nice walks around that area and further up past Glenridding there is Aira force waterfall with some nice walks there. All are around or near lake Ullswater.

| | | Re: Holiday Help. Lake District. Hi Lindsay, ive heard of the Hartsop Fold place, it looks real nice. Ive found a whole load of Lake District lodges on that site too, just waiting a few replies back before i decide which one to book.
Has anyone stayed at Limefitt Park in Troutbeck near Windermere, there seem to be a lot of lodges there, and a few im interested are on that park.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Holiday Help. Lake District. There are a lot of youth hostels in the Lake District ( The Lake District - YHA) and it's possible to do circular walks &c.. There used to be one facility whereby a van would take all your kit from one hostel to another while you walked to the next hostel .... worth looking into, especially if you like walking but aren't sure of where to go .... |

| | | Re: Holiday Help. Lake District. Patterdale or Glenridding is a good base for exploring. Plenty to see around and not so tourist as Ambleside or Grasmere, but can get a little busy in the the Summer months, as you would expect. Patterdale youth hostel is a nice place to stay, a little dated, but it's comfy. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
