| | | Re: Cleveland Way - 2011 Just a change of plan to the Cleveland Way, that is I'm walking it in reverse. In other way's, anti-clockwise.
The reason is three thing's, that is I can get the hard section "Clay Bank to Beacon Hill" out of the way in the early stages, get to walk the Scarborough to Filey section and lastly there are plenty of stock-up points along the coast back to Saltburn, so no need to carry food. I will however, need to carry food for the first two days until I reach Osmotherley.
The camping gear is ready and waiting and the weather will hopefully stay settled, but showers are on the week-end forecast which I don't really mind.
So, this is how the itinerary is looking, subject to change:
Saltburn to Kildale - 14 mls.
Kildale to Osmotherley - 19 mls.
Osmotherley - Sutton Bank - 15 mls
Sutton Bank - Helmsley - 7mls. Bus to Scarbrough, walk to Filey - 11 mls.
Bus back to Scarborough.
Scarborough to Robin Hood's Bay - 12 mls.
Robin Hood's Bay to Runswick Bay - 15 mls.
Runswick Bay to Saltburn - 10 mls. |

| | | Re: Cleveland Way - 2011 Thanks, PMG .
Been shifting through the kit, chucking aside and re-adjusting any gear, I might like or not.
It is hard, this back-packing game, trying to stay lightweight as much as possible. I dread to think, when I first did the Coast to Coast walk back in 1990, young as I was, taking it in my stride. But, getting into my mid 50's, the weight of the rucksack is telling.
Anyway, the stuff nowadays is quite good stuff. |

| I've managed to get the minimum weight of the rucksack to 7kg, but adding the food and water, the weight of the rucksack comes to around the 8kg mark.
Not long now, I will be up on the North Yorkshire Moors and Coast next week. Look out for the report and photos. |

| | | Re: Cleveland Way - 2011 Well, I did the Cleveland Way from Saltburn by the Sea to Robin Hood's Bay. I'm going to finish the Robin Hood's Bay to Saltburn by the Sea in the next two months, as part of my training for the Lyke Wake Walk in August.
The Cleveland Way was great, weather was kind, had a few showers. Also a blister, but the rucksack was superlight at 15 kg.
My next holiday is in August, I'm cycling the Coast to Coast on a mountain bike. I had the idea of tackling the Lakeland Passes, keeping close to the A.W's route. But I'm afraid with the weight of the bike and camping gear, I've decided to head for Keswick on the C2C route and also do the Old Coach Road instead and then down to Pooley Bridge and onto Shap for the rest of the intended route I've planned.
My blog has the report and photos on there, do have a look. Martin's Cycling and Walks Blog |
