Now back at work and planning and saving up for my holidays for next year, a long time off. However, I'm planning either a coast to coast on the mountain bike or a coast to coast on the trekking bike. The former is over the Lakeland mountain passes and general off-road stuff, that will most probably be based on youth hostel's and bed and breakfast. However, I could camp it, using the bivi tent and just use the pubs cafe's or shops for meals and food, as to keep the weight down to the minimum. The latter will be on tarmac roads and that I will take the full camping stuff, that the trekking bike is built to take heavy loads and has very low gears to cope with that. I will decide near the time on that and I have the route sorted, both off-road and on-road.
Also, I've been talking to my mate, who is doing all the National Trails both in England, Wales and Scotland. At that, we are, next year, going to walk the Southern Upland Walk, depending on the time of year. The Southern Upland Way is another coast to coast, that is 212 miles and go's over some very remote and sparse countryside, it is a little known long distance path and unlike Wainwright's coast to coast, it's fairly quiet. We will back-pack that route and a month is yet be decided. One favourable month, would be May, September or October, as to avoid the midges.
So, next year, is going be interesting and about time, I moved on to other things.
In the new year, I will set up a thread for the both, cycling the C2C and walking the SUW. |

| | | Re: A Coast to Coast Walk in Reverse. Been thinking about next year's holiday's, that I'm cancelling the planned mtb coast to coast in favour of completing my coast to coast walk in reverse from Reeth to St.Bees and also planning on walking the Southern Upland Way in a year's time. |
