Everyone has their own idea of specific areas that should be covered on individual maps - which would be very hard to provide within a published series.
However, are you aware of "Ordnance Survey Select"? - You can order from the Ordnance Survey, tailor made Landranger 1:50,000 (40km x 40km) scale, or Explorer 1:25,000 (20km x 20km) scale maps centered on any specific point of your choice. So, you could ensure that the area you are interested in will always be shown on the one map.
Current cost per map, dependent on which series, is £15.99 or £16.99 plus delivery charge - which I think isn't too bad considering that you get the exact area of your choice.
See:- OsSelect-Ordnance Survey

Mike.

Copious amounts of sellotape and patience required to make a decent job of it!
Couldn't agree more with Tom00_uk and Deb London, though.. I use the new technology for remembering exactly where I've been (lots of great Android apps out there), but paper and compass, with the knowledge to use them, are essential as backup and unbeatable for planning where I'm going.

| | | Re: Maps for Walkers For me, it has to be one or more paper 1:25,000 for the ground you will cover. There's simply no substitute. You just can't get the bigger picture with a screen of whatever size.
One of the first things you learn is that evidence of a path on a map doesn't mean it's still there on the ground, or anything passable. We've found so-called "bridleways" on top of mountains in Wales are no such thing on the ground, being boggy tussocks of grass over which we made dreadfully slow, and risky, progress. After about 45 minutes I decided we needed to box round the bog, and absolutely had to have a paper map to figure out a sensible work-around.
Even out this weekend I found the map we were using to be out of date to an extent, so up to date ones will save a lot of issues too.
