| | | North Norfolk Coast Cycleway Hi guys,
I was thinking about tackling a more long distance cycle route next spring/summer, at the moment Im doing 10-15 cycle routes locally at weekends, the longest one we have done is 23 miles.
I was wondering if anyone had done the norfolk coast cycleway (Kings lynn to Cromer), and if you think it would be a good first attempt at a long distance route (im hoping so as it will be fairly flat!).
We would probably camp as we were going so thought there would probably be lots of campsites along the way along a touristy route such as this.
If anyone has any feedback that would be great!

| | | Re: North Norfolk Coast Cycleway Hi Mac
I've not done the North Norfolk Coast Cycleway. But a few years ago, I did the Harwich to Hull Route NCN 1 cycle way. That missed out the coastal section, instead the route going through Norwich and over to King's Lynn via Fakenham and Hunstanton.
Yes, it was very flat and most enjoyable countryside and I can't see a big problem in that, if you go easy.
I've done a lot of cycle-touring over the last 30 years and next year, I think I'm going to do a lot of cycling. I tend to cycle 50+ miles, although I'm happy with 40 miles nowadays.
Camping Wise, there should be lots of camp sites along the coast
I'm doing the Coast to Coast mtb next year and looking at your thread, I wouldn't mind doing the Harwich to Middlesbrough cycleway again. I guess that would take a fortnight to do and at the same time, visit my friend in Lowestoft.
I will be very interested to see how your tour entails along the North Norfolk Coast Cycle Way, as I may include that route in my tour.
Nice to see someone putting a cycle thread on. |

| | | Re: North Norfolk Coast Cycleway Hi, thanks for your response,
This is probably very subjective but how many miles do you think you could comfortably do in a day somewhere flat like norfolk? Including stopping off at places of interest/for a pub lunch etc I was thinking about 30 miles a day?
I have ordered the route guide from Sustrans which is very useful as it shows the route with 1 mile markers along it so you can work out the distances between places if interest. Also there are lots of loops you can do to make the route longer. |

| | | Re: North Norfolk Coast Cycleway Yes, 30 miles would be ideal with a lunch stop sight-seeing. If, you feel happy with that distance, that's fine and relaxing.
If I was cycling around the Norfolk area, I would be happy with 50+ miles and still get to have a pub lunch and some sight-seeing. I'm doing a tour of Northern England, the route is sorted, but the mileage needs to be sorted. I'm looking at between 50 & 60 mpd, maybe more. A lot depends on the terrain. At the end of the day, it's what you are comfortable with.
Good luck in your planning. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
