A few days in Kent :-)

A few of weeks ago now, I stayed with a friend of mine who took me on a couple of walks along the Kent coast.

On the first day, we went to Dover. After walking along the cliffs for a while, we took the zig-zaggy chalk path that leads down to the beach - although there wasn't much beach to stand on when we got down there! I ended up with a boot full of sea water, after misjudging the waves!

After that, we had a wander along the concrete 'new bit of Britain' and the beach at Samphire Hoe.

I love that picture of the sea with the lone bird, the rays of sunlight look perfect.

On the second day, we went to Dungeness in the morning and Capel le Ferne in the afternoon!
I've always liked Dungeness and it's very strange looking landscape.....and even stranger looking houses!

The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch light railway.....the smallest public railway in the world!....




It's difficult to know what to call the bit where the houses are in Dungeness;
I think shanty settlement would just about cover it! Most houses are made of wood and a few of the gardens consist of pebbles, driftwood and other natural materials. I just love them!....

After exploring the 'town', we then drove to the RSPB reserve. As it was more of a walk rather than a bird watching thing, I didn't get to photograph any birds! But I did get a treat just before we left....

Next stop was Capel le Ferne. We parked in a side road not far from a little cliff top cafe, then made our way down through lovely woodland to the beach....

We crossed the railway bridge that led to the beach just as a train came along....

Is your favourite cottage the one that belonged to Derek Jarman? I bought his book of the history of his house and natural garden - then my daughter decided that was (another) book she would look after for me.

Excellent. I enjoyed looking at your time out in Kent. I know all the places well and Samphire Hoe is a particular favourite place of mine.

Fabulous pictures Tracey. Dead Man's Cove is the local name for the beach with a ladder. Glad to see the ladder has all its rungs these days! Those are the cliffs where the fulmers nest.

And you can buy samphire along with fresh crabs on the fish stalls of Folkestone Harbour in the summer. It's a bit salty for me.
