| | | Re: Tent choices I have a one man tent, which I got cheap from friend, who had never used it. This is the Wild Country Solace, which is now discontinued. I was going to use it for cycling, but have the Vango Banshee 300.
It may have to go, so may sell it. |

| | | Re: Tent choices At the moment I hae a cheap, not light Argos tent I bught for festivals and I am actually thinking if I get a good sleeping bag I can use that and my cheap tent if I go one-night camping in late autumn, and then I can invest a bit more in a couple of months. After looking at tents and bags, I think the bag is more important, which I hadn't thought at first. Looking over all these choices, the main thing is the weight of the tent, which is going to become important in February when I am aiming for weekend hikes. |

| | | Re: Tent choices It's a one-piece thing. I think it's about 2.5 kilos, and it's bulky. I really don't want to use it for multi-day hiking but I think I was wrong in thinking that it's the tent that's as big a deal for being outside in the cold as the sleeping bag, which is why I had completely discounted it. |

that was some muddy campsite - the farmer tried to pull us out with his 4x4 but that got stuck too so he had to go get a tractor - btw thats boddie's roben lightrock to the right of my tent. lesson learned a) dont drive onto a strange feild in the dark, b) dont drive a rear wheel drive merc onto a field full stop, and c) if a tent is seriously cheap theres probably a reason
for winter camping if you are travelling by car i reccomend as much bedding as possible - when i went to gigrin january 07 I had my three season bag, a double duvet, and an airbed and i was still cold enough to have to sleep in my clothes , with my hat on and my feet inside my rucksac, admittedly the force nine wind and horizontal snow might have had something to do with that.

Them summer tents are not for the winter months, as my mate found out the hard way, using a single skin tent - See photo. Boy, did he suffer from the cold.
This is me, camping in February 1988 @ Medd's Farm, Thorgill, Rosedale. My tent is on the right, a old John Merrill's tent made by Black's. My mate's tent is on the left, a summer tent | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
