| | | Meindl v's brasher? Hi im on the lookout for a crimbo pressie to myself for completing the first term of uni .
I was all set on getting a pair of brasher walking boots ( probably the hillmaster classic gtx or the hillmaster lux as they appear to have suddenly discontinued there new top of the range boot the trailmaster??)
but i visited our local cotswold outdoor store and spied some yummy looking meindl's? two models borneo and burma?
Does anyone own or rate/review some of these meindl's
I get the impression its a love/ hate thing with brasher? and without sounding like a fashion victim the styling of the brasher compared with the meindl seems a little more dated? ( imo)
so basically any miendl leather boot owners out there?
and before someone suggests the obvious i shall be going back this weekend to try on the two makes and have a shop wander etc.
p.s. my budget will be around £100-£130 |

| | | Re: Meindl v's brasher? I bought a pair of Meindl boots last year - I went for in Brasher but tried the Meindl Borneo at Stewardsons in Cumbria, paid £115.00. No complaints - I have worn them most days from then and they are very comfortable.

| | | Re: Meindl v's brasher? hi, i've also got a pair of Meindl's, they've always been great. bought mine an hour before a days hike in the brecons - i was expecting plenty of blisters - but they were perfect! very light, very waterproof, strong and very breathable and comfy.
apparently meindl family have been making boots for 300yrs...blimey charlie. think they cost approx £100. worth every penny! |

both are good boots, it's a question of which ones feel more comfortable for you

In all fairness the brasher hillmasters felt more comfy but then again they are like slippers with laces...i just feel a bit too young for the styling, they just scream rambler society to me ( no offence)
I think it will be meindl's but now i cant decide on burhma or borneo's?....
and i have just spied n their website some of the yummy higher cut hunting/hiking boots they do ! very sexy. ::: MEINDL ::: Shoes for Actives :::

Mr Cheeky | its where it has always been - in the treehouse - its just that no one has posted on it for a few days so it is now on page 2
returning to the subject of the thread I've owned both brands and my personal preference out of the two is for brasher , out of any brand however I would plump for zamberlan , Not very helpful I know

Comfort wise i agree on brasher and i love their legendary status...great website etc...i just struggle a little with the styling..call me vain?...the only one i liked was last years "New top of the range trekking boot..the Trailmaster gtx"...which has already been discontinued ?.
I worked with an old guy on tuesday coppicing and he had a pair of meindle borneos ( or burhmas?) that were already 15 years old and going strong...he swore by them?
I checked out zamberlains online...they seem great but the styling is very brasher once again?
I think to be honest..in this style/ price bracket...meindle, brasher, zamberlain etc....the performance and quality is very similar and it just goes down to personal tatse on the styling?

Dan | as mine are frequently (not to say mostly) caked in mud and other cack I have to say that the styling is not my biggest concern - warm , comfortable , waterproof, and dont give me blisters is all i'm really worried about ... I wouldnt wear the meindls to go clubbing either
that said any of the options in this price bracket will be fine and as you say it comes down to personal taste.

Tony | They are not bad looking shoes. I love my Scarpas and I really do like my new Hunter wellington boots. I used to get bad blisters too. I was never meant to walk. Proof in proof be need be that I was stolen from the aristocracy as a child and sold to my parents |

i rarely get blisters - proof that i am a horny footed son of the soil - or possibly an unusually tall hobbit

| | | Re: Meindl v's brasher? being new to this site, i read this thread with some trepidation, but phew, you went for the meindl. i had brashers for going to egypt. they lasted 16days and then the soles started to peel off. by the end of my 28day trip my spare boot laces were holding the boots together in a sort of harness thing. i went and bought some meindl's on my return home and they've lasted me through 8years of lake district hiking.
sarah
p.s. i'd go with aigle, hunters are a bit skinny in the leg. makes for uncomfy walking if you're into mountain biking, or serious walking, or dance.....
