| | | Re: My 3 favourite activities! Just been talking to a friend (and occasional cycling companion) who has just finished cycling the C2C - camping and bunkhousing - which has really made me want to do it - I have been put off it a bit by people saying it's really hard but, if he can manage it, then I definitely can. Unless he's improved a lot since I last cycled with him..............
Right - that's yet another route on my list
Are you coming to a decision about your holiday, Foxy? |

| | | Re: My 3 favourite activities! Well, the rib injury is (touchwood) easing off, although I get the odd twinge, but that is I guess part of the healing process. So, hoping by the time my holidays start in mid September, I should be fine to walk the Coast to Coast.
Cycling the Coast to Coast is not so hard, by my standards. Depends on how fit you are and the ability to keep going.
There are a few Coast to Coast routes and can name them.
C2C, that is Whitehaven to Sunderland or Newcastle upon Tyne
W2W, that is Walney to Wear (Sunderland) or a longer option to Whitby
There is a route devised by the CTC called the Dales Side to Side, which is from Seascale to Scarborough.
The hardest C2C route is called the Wheelwright's MTB and followed closely to the Wainwrights C2C route, although, it does go over Black Sail Pass into Wasdale head, Eskdale, Walna Scar Road, Elter Water, Ambleside, Kentmere, Garburn Pass and over to Shap and so on to Robin Hood's Bay on lanes and bridleway's. There is a easy option, that is stay on the C2C and head over the Old Coach Road, then on to Pooley Bridge, Askham and then Shap.
I've done the Wheelwright's Route proper and believe me, it is hard.
Next year, I'm hoping cycle the Hadrian's Cycle-Way, then down the west coast to Walney and so on to Whitby. From Whitby, I will head south to Hull and then cycle the White Rose route to Middlesbrough via York. Should be fun. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
