Just a few words about this World Heritage site (
New Lanark World Heritage Site) on the banks of the River Clyde (very low when we visited). The site is that of a beautifully restored 18th Century cotton mill, and has numerous points of interest over a large area. Buildings have been renovated and many house museums relating to the lives of those who lived and worked in the area from the 18th century until its eventual closure. Facilities also include shops, restaurant, hotel and the great Annie McLeod Experience Ride. A reasonable admission fee is payable for some of the areas you may wish to visit.
The heritage centre is very close to the Falls of Clyde wildlife reserve some of which we walked on a lovely day in June. (Nesting Peregrines may be observed in season) together with many other bird species, wild flowers etc. set in lush countryside.
Incidentally, the young man I spoke to in the Scottish Wildlife Trust visitor centre housed in the old dyeworks, told me that he often visits WAB and finds the information on site very helpful.
Hope you spend a few happy hours at New Lanark if you are in the vicinity!
