| | | Re: Plas y Brenin Snowdonia Does look fairly hard going. I do a lot of hillwalking but this looks a cut above. Is this the best place to to learn in the area? Some of the staff look like they're knocking on a bit too! |

Just be aware that you have to get to 25 posts before you can access the meet-ups section. It's worth the effort though! Walking Forum - Index

| | | Re: Plas y Brenin Snowdonia PYB is the National Mountaineering Centre and has a reputation for some of the best training around (never taken a course there myself, but wouldn't hesitate). As others have said though, you could gain good hillwalking and easy scrambling skills from just joining up with other likeminded people, I think PYB excels at the more technical course, leader training etc. |

| | | Re: Plas y Brenin Snowdonia Thanks all for suggestions. I've done quite a lot of hill walking and Snowdon, Watkin path, and long distance, but not any serious mountaineering! Will think about joining a group first and the walking forum!

| | | Re: Plas y Brenin Snowdonia It is a good few years since I did a mountain leadership course there, but it was excellent.
Superb instruction both in and outdoors and good accommodation.
If you want a good grounding in all skills you need to go confidently into the mountains this is a great place.
I'd suggest you give them a ring and talk over what you want and your current capabilities - they have all types of courses.
