| | | The Crosses Walk Having knocked the idea on the head of a coast to coast walk in September (sic), I have decided to walk the Crosses Walk instead and do the coast to coast on a bike on the 2nd week.
Anyway, the Crosses Walk is a 60 mile circular start/finish in Goathland and the idea is visit the 15 Crosses along the route, which I will list in due time.
The idea of the Crosses walk go's aback a long way to June 1971 by the Scarborough & District Search & Rescue Team to rise money for more radio's and later that year in October, the first crossing was completed and over the years the walk was used by the LDWA as a annual event, but, nowdays it not done as so, but anyone with good map-reading skills can do it as a decent 4 day walking holiday.
I have the 1st copy of the Crosses Walk by The Dalesman and was first published in 1974, these are now very sought after and prices can fetch high prices, I got mine for 60p in 1974 |

| | | Re: The Crosses Walk It is a interesting route, Richard. I was hoping to get my mate to join me on this walk, but he can't get the dates off, not to worry.
But, these are the crosses I will visit enroute in that order in anticlockwise circular walk.
Bottom Cross
White Cross
Old Ralph Cross
Young Ralph Cross
Ana Cross
Victoria Cross
High Cross
Low Cross
Mauley Cross
Hudson Cross
Malo Cross
Lilla Cross
Ann Cross
Postgate Cross
John Cross
and York Cross
The terrain is pretty much remote as you get it and is a complete moorland walk, there is a bit of forest for 3 miles.
Pubwise, there is the Lion Inn on Blakey Rigg, my first night camp. Pubs in Lastingham and Cropton, I could go off route for Newton on Rawcliffe, but I plan to wild camp somewhere on the outskirts of Cropton forest, which I'm not saying where it is. Then over to the coast for Robin Hood's Bay for 3rd campsite and back to the moorland and onto Goathland for my final campsite.
If thing's go well on this walk, then I plan to do the Lyke Wake Walk which is 42 miles and probably do it overnight starting 9pm and finish in the Ravenscar hopefully around mid-day. Then, I'm gonna get the train to Whitehaven and cycle the coast to coast to Whitby, so I'm gonna be busy in September. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
