Hi all not sure where to post it so i thought why not in the walking section section? I am trying to find book I started but never finished about ten yrs ago,author and title unknown. I remember author was female and book was written in a sort of diary format a day at a time. It's not a novel but actual diary extracts in book form. It's about the author whom has problems sleeping and therefore ventures out into the woods at night, the diary chronicles the weather the seasons and her chance encounters like the time a group of poachers came into the wood and she was able to observe them un-noticed. The book is at least ten years old and I belive has a dark possibly black cover and possibly the word night in the title other than that can't think of what else to tell you? Can anyone help by this description please? Many thanks.

I remember the book - she spent quite a lot of her time watching either badgers or foxes as I recall. Unfortunately I can't remember her name or that of the book at the moment. I'd say it was more like 15-20 years ago when it came out??

the description sounds more like the sequel to that one - "out of the darkness"

The other badger lady is monica edwards her badger books are, the badgers of punchbowl farm, and badger valley - but she didnt have trouble sleeping and didnt encounter poachers so my money would be on chris ferris

both books are out of print but you can get them second hand easily enough

What can I say other than a huge thank-you to everyone.

I have searched for months for this book and within 24 hours not only have i got author and title but a sequel as well.

Many thanks to Rob and Eyore, now off to ebay to see if i can get them.

I always new this was the best nature site on the web.

I've haven't read that book, it sounds like something I would really enjoy. I'll be looking out for this book as well
