Longside Edge - Salters Brook 2 March 2010

Hello

Whilst driving from Sheffield to Chester yesterday to collect the eldest from Uni I decided to pull up in one of the lybyes on the Woodhead and go for a wonder

(PS put wrong date on title should have been 5th March!)

Then back to the car Bovril and a pasty and off I went a nice pit stop

Nice Paul. Can I ask where you saw the short-eared owl? I've been over Woodhead upteen times, but never seen one up there.

On Longside Edge, parked in the layby in the picture and walked up onto the hillside following the Trans Pennine Trail, the owl was just off the path, never seen one whilst driving over the woodhead and I go over every 3 weeks or so ferrying the eldest to/from Chester Uni

Thanks. I'll pay a bit more attention in that area next time I'm over that way. I've had many a brew at the snack van that is sometimes in that layby. Though not seen it for a bit

The snack van is in the next layby down (towards Woodhead) - went over twice this morning! taking eldest back to Chester. Did notice at the Barnsley end quite a few roadkills that could have been Moutain Hare.
