Jim | Yes and no...pinto beans make a pleasant kind of 'sauce' when you boil them well.
I use the "cosy" technique - it's very common in Scandinavia where it's called 'putting it in a haybox'. People used to keep a box of hay for that purpose.
I wrap the pot (with lid) in a a plastic bag and then use my sleeping bag to keep the heat in.

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk (East to West) 2010 Actually I prefer baked beans on toast, mmm, I will have to try it whilst camping on C2C. I know you can get them toasters, wonder if it would work on the Pocket Rocket |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk (East to West) 2010 Don't know about that Foxy, but you could get some at the hostels I expect. Or you could take some rusky things and heat the beans and put them on that. LURVLEY ! ! |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk (East to West) 2010 You're right Kayleigh, I didn't mean soggy Farleys. I meant those ADULT rusky things, they are very light weight and quite delicious,IMO. are they called Breakfast Biscuits. can't remember, only thing is they'd go soggy too with moisture of beans,(which are also heavy) , you'd have to keep them separate. .......The CAFE idea sounds favourite though Foxy, How do you keep the weight down on all your loose change, cos I expect some cafes dont take plastic...... .....Poe |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk (East to West) 2010 I think I know what you mean now, just had a Google. I will have a look in the 24 hour supermarket where I work.
Yes, cafes don't seem to take debit cards, although some will, depends. However the campsites such as farms or pubs like cash only, but some pubs like the Lion Inn orn the Blue Bell Inn on the North York Moor will take debit/credit cards. In the case of the Lion Inn, it will be omitted this time.
Best to take £10 of loose change, say 5 x £1 pounds and the rest in 10p, 50p to make up the £10. I carry enough notes to pay camp sites, but there is cash points in Richmond, Kirkby Stephen, Grasmere and most pubs/shops do cash-back if you spend a minimum £5/£10. So not really a problem, but never I never take a large amount of money on the walk. |

| | Re: Coast to Coast Walk (East to West) 2010 I was thinking of the weight of coins, 'cos you were counting grams when discussing benefits of stoves, so I wondered if you had a method of cutting down on coin weight, but I suppose you are going to get loads of change given to you if you take fivers. You could take some books of postage stamps to use as change.,some people will take unused stamps, in lieu of cash..........Or you could borrow one of my Shetland ponies, say Sausage, to be your 'pack pony', then you could take all your money in two-pence-pieces......
