Headnets, or better still a midge jacket is the only 100% effective midge protection I've found.

Perhaps a deterrent has to combine with the odours and chemicals that each individual person produces to produce a concoction that the Midges either can or cannot tolerate. Thus, each remedy is subjective. | Good observation, Doggle. Probably valid too, as even the best perfumes can react differently on different skins.

| | | Re: Help me find an Effective Mozzie/Midge repellant (tried 'Vape'?) Midges effect different people in different ways. They only annoy me and I don't come out in lumps or red bite marks but my mum gets bright red bite marks all over her face and no product has ever worked for her. I know others who swear by Avon and Deet products and others who have tried them with no effect.

eat lots of garlic and marmite, both of these help deter the biters in different ways,
garlic in your sweat deters them, and vitamin from the marmite once absorbed will not stop them from biting initially but they don't like the taste.
both of these came from an aquaintance of mine who works with mossies.
also skin so soft, this a conclusion from a group of anglers who all swear by it. |

He looked into it and several military survivalists are apparently also recommending it as an anti-mozzy treatment.

| | | Re: Help me find an Effective Mozzie/Midge repellant (tried 'Vape'?) I live in a very midgy place (Skye)
have not found that Avon stuff to be any use AT ALL!
That said they don't bother me much at all.
I do have a midge hood for very bad times.

| | | Re: Help me find an Effective Mozzie/Midge repellant (tried 'Vape'?) My "Skin So Soft" spray arrived today. I only sprayed a little on my hand and boy does it smell strong I don't know about keeping the midges away, I can't imagine any living creature will come near me once I've sprayed it all over, yuck! I'll just have to grin and bear it as having ignored me for years, every biting insect known to man now seems to be showing an interest They even attack me through quite thick clothing
Since there seems to be mixed opinion about "Skin So Soft" I shall return with a verdict once I've thoroughly tested it.
