| | The Pennine Way Walk After the Coast to Coast Walk demised now in a fainting memory (no, not that bad ) I'm now thinking (early days ) about the Pennine Way for 2010. I did this walk in 1971, with a small group from my school when I was a pruney 14 year old. I had never forgot the walk since then and for years after I've always had a burning ambition to do the walk again.
When I was doing the Coast to Coast in May, I met two lads from Suffolk and one of them had the ambition to do it also. Although the Pennine Way is longer at 250 miles and much harder than the Coast to Coast, I reckon I could do in the 2 weeks with some training.
With another year to go, (yes planning takes a year ) I need to get out with the local ramblers for some training and no Aldi boots this time. |

| | | Re: The Pennine Way Walk Thank you, Chris. Yes, the Pennine Way is the grandaddy of all long distance walks. However it is very early days, nevertheless, I will need to get some training done starting in the New Year. I'm also back-packing the route and most important of all - good fitting boots or trainers.
I'm going to Upper Teesdale this Sunday walking from Bowlees to Dufton via Cow Green and High Cup Nick, all on the Pennine Way. I hope to get some good photos. |

| | | Re: The Pennine Way Walk I came a blog and one couple did the Pennine Way North to South in 12 days and married at the end in Edale in the Nag's Head. Although in my case, staying single, footloose and fancyfree. |

It took us ten days and we raised the princely sum of £58 for charity!
The great thing about being that age was that we didn't need to do ANY training. We just got on and did it, including the last day, which was a staggering 29 miles in one go. Mind you, I was running 25 miles a week at the time so had a good base fitness.
Like you, I'd love to do it again, but not in such a short time and definitely not carrying anything. I think yaks sound like a great idea. |

| | | Re: The Pennine Way Walk I walked the Pennine Way when I was 19 or 20, way back in 1976. Fortunately for me, that was the year of the 'Great Drought' - almost the whole way was on springy turf instead of being a mess of mud. My friends and I were youth hostelling, so didn't have to carry as much gear as the likes of foxey mars who camp.
We dreaded the long final day over the Cheviots, but in the end we were so fit by the time it came round we just sailed through and finished it hours earlier than we'd expected to. |

| | | Re: The Pennine Way Walk 1976 was a great summer, them long hot summer nights. However I never did any walking then nor cycling, that was to arrive another 5 years later.
From 1976 - 1981 was night-clubbing, pubs, drinking, smoking, gambling and Women - no, just single and happy. When I think back, I must of gone through a few 1000 fags and pints. Oh to be so young, no nanny state then. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
