When I was a kid visiting relatives up in the smoke we used to go and paddle in the serpentine.

When I was last at Victoria Dock, there was quite a nice (but small) sandy beach that kids were happily playing on. IIRC it was at the West end.

Actually thinking of going to Broadstairs in Kent. Lovely sandy beach and only 1.5 hours from London
