Danny Bridge is a regular stopping place for me, great place to brew up. There's a cracking cave a few yards downstream of the bridge on the left bank. Bit of a tight entrance but some lovely formations not too far in. About sixteen years ago leachate from the tip in the old quarry at the top of the road near the junction was making it a little unpleasant but there's no sign of it now. No sign of the tip either, it has grown over well.
The Adam Sedgwick geological trail is good too. The only place I've seen graptolites.
Keep it up and I'm really glad it worked out for you. | I love really early starts for walks. I set off walking at half past six this morning. Was a nice drive back to the M6 too, via Dent and Kingsdale (happy memories of Yordas Cave there).
After the walk at Danny Bridge, I walked a bit of the Sedgewick Trail. Would love to have found the graptolites (I've found them in the North Pennines, near Murton when I was on a uni' field trip in 1994, but not since). Would also liked to have seen the exposure showing the Dent Fault. Is there some sort of leaflet available anywhere illustrating the trail better and pointing out where to find goodies like graptolites and where you can see the fault?
Regards, Chris

| | | Re: Baugh Fell, Yorkshire Dales There used to be a box of leaflets alongside the panorama board at the large car park. I cannot recall if it's there now, will have a look next time I pass.
The leaflet was a good one, took you through the trail pointing out all the interesting stuff like chert nodules, graptolites (which I found with difficulty). I've got one in the house somewhere.
It's probably available in Sedburgh at the TIC or similar.
You'll have seen the Sedgewick memorial granite obelisk in the middle of Dent at the road junction? |
