| | | Re: where did you walk today? a few pics from todays wander in Clumber park, these were taken in the area between the classical bridge and the Carburton lodge entrance, the weather was quite dull today but there are some nice colours around,
the only downside to the walk was the puppy finding some fox poo and rolling in it , it was a trip home with all the car windows down, despite the cold wind, and bathtime for the puppy in which we all got a soaking
this is the view from the classical bridge looking towards the gothic chapel.
and this one shows the chaps hard at work on the repairs to the classical bridge, (and what an excellent job they are making of it)

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Another shortish local walk for me today, a circular route from Studham Common to Markyate, returning via Roe End. It was a grey but mild morning, about 10C. Studham from Studham Common Track leading from Studham Common towards Roe End Footpath to Markyate Distant view of Studham church from near Markyate Looking back towards Roe End Path through Great Bradwin's Wood
I heard and saw a skylark as I crossed Studham Common. The only other wildlife sighting was a Buzzard, very high in the sky as I approached Markyate. |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? The heather is carefully burnt in a controlled way. The idea is to encourage young heather shoots to grow, as food for both sheep and grouse. |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Your 16 miles makes me feel very lazy, Foxy! Great photos everyone.
I managed about 2 miles above the Sydling Valley to the north of Dorchester this morning. Great in the sun and out of the stiff breeze.
Mixed woodland that will be covered with primroses before too long. |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Yes, Lynn. The 16 miles was a fast pace and I need to get some miles in before my Coast to Coast in 10 weeks. That middle photo of the trees, looks very bleak and errie. |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? I quite amazed myself, at the age of 52 I have'nt been out walking for a year, must be all the cycling I've been doing. Still walking is nice and am pleased I can still do the 16 miles, I need to for the C2C. I have a couple of long days of 22 miles, Shap to Kirkby Stephen and Ingleby Cross to Lion Inn. I've a 30 mile walk next week-end over 2 days doing the Esk Valley Walk, weather permitting because I'm camping it. Should hopefully get some good photos. |

I think that 16 miles may be a bit beyond me at the moment, but I am hoping to walk around the Isle of Portland sometime soon. That, I think, is about 7 miles. Looking for a good clear day as the views should be spectacular! |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Today I did one of my favourite walks in the Chilterns, a roughly 12-mile circular route from Cowleaze Wood (just south of Stokenchurch and the M40). Path down Shirburn Hill, looking out to the Oxfordshire Plain
I could see some Red Kites from the car park, and as I started down the hill in the photo above there were about half a dozen of them overhead. Near the bottom of the hill I saw three Buzzards together with a Kite. From the path up Pyrton Hill, looking back out over the Oxfordshire Plain Looking back along the Bridleway between Christmas Common and Stonor The Stonor valley
Just before reaching this viewpoint I saw about 20 Red Kites in the sky. And a little after taking the next photo I saw another group of 20 (this was when I met the only other walker I saw all day). The Wormsley Estate Ibstone Common Path through the Wormsley Estate
No wildflowers in bloom yet, but I did see the leaves of a Primrose. |

Did however managed an hours walk - to Hadleigh castle with the dog after work

We often walk in and around the Stonor valley, such a beautiful area, have you ever visited Warburg nature reserve to the west of Stonor? If not I'd recommend it

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Lovely memories from your pictures today, Pete. Friends of my late in-laws used to live in a house on Ibstone Common....I suspect it was the one to the top right of your photo!
I did a couple of miles from Abbotsbury towards West Bexington and back this afternoon. It was disappointingly cloudy after a blue skied morning.
Path from the car park at Abbotsbury
Coastal cottage west of Abbotsbury beach.
Looking east from Chesil Beach....Portland in the background and the Fleet to the left. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
