Julie | Dunstable Downs appeared briefly on BBC's CountryFile today - right at the end, when John Craven was presenting the new presenters, Julia Bradbury and some new chap. I only recognised it because their visit had been mentioned in the local paper and the parish magazine (it was recorded a week or so ago). They also took photos for the CountryFile magazine at the Chiltern Gateway Centre on the Downs. |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? This one comes from a couple of weekends ago (21st - that one where it was really sunny & warm) on The New Forest. It started off frosty, but that soon burned off. Plenty of Fallow deer about - have included pics of some of them. The usual birds were about. There were plenty of Hawfinches in some of the woods, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker & Firecrest. Out on the heaths there were Dartford Warblers, Woodlarks, Curlews, Stonechats etc. Sunrise over Rakes Brakes Bottom An ancient Oak in Old Sloden Wood View from the edge of Old Sloden towards Hasley Hill Inclosure... ......Broomy Inclosure.... ......& Alderhill Inclosure with Hampton Ridge at the back. Fallow buck. The heath is still covered in frost. New Forest Ponies in Sloden Inclosure. Coral in the drift-way in between Sloden & Alderhill Inclosures. These are used in the pony round-ups (drifts) late summer & Autumn. Latchmore Brook Douglas Firs in Alderhill Inclosure Some more Fallow bucks. Out on the heath again - view from Gaze Hill back towards AlderHill Inclosure.... ......& Hasley Hill Inclosure at the back. The view from Hampton Ridge towards the corner of Alderhill Inclosure.... .....& Hasley Hill Inclosure. The frost is burning off & making the air hazey 3 Fallow does |

Today I walked in my local park which is lovely but I've not been for a while as we are in earshot range of Military Land and my dog has become very sensitive to the gun fire etc which has become more regular so I normally go a bit further afield but I chanced it today. Lovely and sunny and I had a Comma flutter by me and land on a fence while I was looking in a pond which is supposed to be home to Great Crested Newts - never ever seen any though
Here's the Comma |
