| | | Re: where did you walk today? I did an 8 mile circular walk today from Edale, in the Peak District, taking in Kinder Scout. I set off bound for Grindslow Knoll first and early on the sun was trying to come out. Alas when I reached the plateau the wind nearly blew me over and the mist came down. It was also very icy underfoot. By the time I'd finished and was enjoying a swift pint in the Ramblers Inn, the cloud was just lifting off the tops. Note the 'Pig's Yed' rock.

| | | Re: where did you walk today? It is lovely up there Pam, a trip along Derwent Edge is probably my favourite walk in the Peaks. On a summer's evening, you can pretty much have it to yourself |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Yet another walk around Anston Stones Wood, perhaps only 3-4 miles in total but a really nice walk for a Saturday morning. Plenty of Carrion Crow, Blue Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Great Tit, Marsh Tit but also saw my very first Nuthatch (not been doing the birdwatching long) Also saw what I think was a Skylark - they're in the area and after a bit of googling would match up but couldn't focus the bino's quick enough to be sure! If it was, that would be another first for me
No pictures I'm afraid - saving up for a camera - ETA end of March

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Hi Jonquil,
The actual South West Coastal path goes inland, slightly, at Abbotsbury and runs on the inland side of the Fleet until it reaches Ferrybridge. It is possible to walk along parts of Chesil in that area, but not the whole length. It is definitely closed during the breeding season for the Little Terns.
It's very hard work to walk on the pebbles, especially as they get bigger towards the Portland end of the beach. Far too much chance of twisting an ankle for my liking! |
