The walk was most enjoyable and I was suffering from a niggling sore throat, that my intend plans were to include Sedgefield, but that omitted and most of the return route from Sedgefield, back to walk-way is on minor roads and shared cycle=path alongside the very busy A689. Also, I greeted with 2 pesky dogs, I don't like at all. Them very tiny black flies were in swarms and after wards, I had a cup of teas, tuna bun and then 2 pints of bitter in the nearby village of Thorpe Thewles and got a jar of organic honey too for my tickety-boo sore throat
Nevertheless, I'm pleased to get the 10 miles in and trying out the Berghaus Explorer boots, which are great, no hot spots or blisters. I used George thin white sport socks as a liners and pretty good too.
I saw 2 German cycle-tourist who said, there cycling the NCN 1 as part of the North-Sea cycle-route and looked a little lost. I assisted them to help them back onto the NCN 1, which go's through some rough parts of Stockton on Tees, that I didn't say about. But, we get loads of German's and Dutch doing the NCN 1 and seem to love the area.
Anyway, I managed some photos enroute. Not the best, but not that bad. | Lovely Pictures Foxy

Lovely pics foxy - sorry to hear the sore throat is hanging on - try some cider vinegar (Asda and other stores sell it) mix it half and half with the same amount of honey (ie: tablespoons of each) warm in a pan till well mixed - let cool and gargle with it - will cut that sore throat in no time |

However, the sore throat is subsiding and feeling a lot better. But these virus's do have to take their toll, I was lucky enough to have a mild one and not a full-blown one. I was somewhat doubt about walking the coast to coast next week, mainly my chest was worrying me, however, that is fine. If, I had changed my mind, I would of waited a week and done the coast to coast on the bike instead.
I did the salt-water gargle and that did help it a lot, also, a trip to the sea-side did me some wonders. What is it, about the sea-air!
I will try that next time, Pauline about the cider vinegar with honey, sounds lovely.
I did have a tot of whiskey before bed-time and that helped a me a lot, well it would .
Anyway, I need to focus my mind on the coast to coast, for next week. I'm getting nervous about it all, although, I shouldn't be, the times, I've done it, just pre-walk nerves I guess.
So, hopefully all go's well and will put on some photos just for you, Pauline, I'm sure that will cheer you up. |

| | Re: where did you walk today? (yesterday) Group outing to Uppermill, Rochdale :thirty two walkers left Huddersfield on the Manchester bus. We walked up a side road to the long distance footpath which we followed for a short distance before winding through houses to a track that lead up to the obelisk. A steep climb but not as steep as we had been led to believe and we took it at a leisurely pace for about ninety minutes . Picnic lunches around the obelisk, wonderful views for miles, several family groups out walking too. The breeze made picnicing an interesting experience, I'm afraid one plastic bag that whipped away into the heather was not recovered. Then back via St Chads church to Uppermill for the three thirty bus back.
I contemplated getting off early at Slathwaite for a three milewalk back into Meltham but decided not.....but I did do my usual "two hour" stroll after tea....not too much to look at and I was home in ninety minutes.
Post script: A Public Inconvenience....there's a lovely little childrens playground nad grassy area in the middle of Uppermill bounded by a footpath beside a river with stepping stones and a waterfall and public loos at one end. Yesterday there were dozens of children with parents on the park but at three o clock the public loos were shuttered and closed.....now where is the sense in that?

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Not quite today, but a couple of weeks back I walked 12 miles in the New Forest, starting in Ashurst then south to Brockenhurst and on to Lymington.
A fantastic walk, taking in heathland, bogs, woodland, reedbeds and river. I was lucky enough to see sundews, fallow deer and a very brief glimpse of a kingfisher. |

They can play for Yorkshire you know (cricket).
