| | | Re: where did you walk today? Lovely snow scenes, everybody. Thanks for sharing!
I didn't get out at the weekend (it snowed quite heavily on Saturday and Sunday we had visistors) but it looks like the snow will still be around next weekend. A nice snowy walk on Christmas Day - that's something to look forward to! |

| | | Re: where did you walk today? This is yesterday's walk really. It was our ninth annual Winter Solstice Walk, over the moors, visiting several pubs en route and supping a few pints. We left Milnrow, via Tunshill to walk over Windy Hills, to reach the Pennine Way by Junction 22 of the M62. Snow was deep on the tops and very icy and powdery. The PW then brought us to the highest point of the day, Blackstone Edge at 1548' (472m). It was a little hazy, but we could still see other notable Lancashire hills like Pendle and Winter Hill in the distance. The first pub, The White House was about a mile or so on from here at the top of the A58. We 'put down' two swift ones in here, before descending down towards Littleborough to the next pub, The Moorcock. Here we had a further few pints, before dropping down to the Red Lion in Littleborough for another couple. Our final halt was the local Indian restaurant.
Looking towards Rochdale from Windy Hills
Looking to Crow Knowl from Rookstones Hill
Rishworth Moor from Blackstone Edge
Looking south from Blackstone Edge

I can never make my mind up as to whether or not our annual 'winter event' is a walk or a challenging pub crawl. It certainly felt like a pub crawl the morning after!

| | | Re: where did you walk today? Nice photos Ken (and Kayleigh!), especially the goosanders. I also just caught sight of the C. Beefheart reference. My mate used to be a fan of his and I remember an album he owned by Beefheart, with the fantastic title of 'Trout Mask Replica'. My mate was a huge Frank Zappa fan too.
Sorry to digress folks.

| | | Re: where did you walk today? neo avante garde jazz make it up xexexexe stuff, but still regarded as a pioneer..................and a great painter.
Took lead on Frank Zappa's Willie the Pimp - unforgettable, should be heard, never mind that stuff you liked on Coast...................sorry!
''I'm a little pimp with my hair gassed back, pair of khaki pants and my shoe shined black'' and so on, in a gruff voice, marvellous, I can still sing it all the way through (very sad I know), from Franks Hot Rats.
Enough. sorry to go on, its my era.
Cheers Chris
Ken
