| | | Re: What About The Pedestrians Yeah i had that problem, no grit on the path on way to uni and its icy rather than snowy here so was slip sliding all over the place , got to the end of the icy patch just to fall over on my xexexexe.... luckily my bag broke my fall . Our country just doesn't seem to be able to cope with a bit of ice , apparently our news has been broadcast across the world and they find it funny that we're so pathetic

| | | Re: What About The Pedestrians My Local council bought two snowplows a few years ago, and having only used them once the first winter and not at all the next winter they GAVE them to our 'twin town' in Germany! End result is council tax wasted and tax payers had nothing to clear their roads! |

| | | Re: What About The Pedestrians The back lane and paths here are lethal and we live facing onto a busy B road that never gets gritted. The bank leading down to the dual carriage way can be a nightmare if it snows through the night, as we leave early morning. |

| | | Re: What About The Pedestrians What about the cycle paths, I've had to trudge through 4" of snow on a mountain bike and even that can't cope. Took me an hour to get into work, so on the return home, I cycled on the A19, which was clear of any snow That took me 30 minutes, I'll do the same tonight. |

| | | Re: What About The Pedestrians Some years ago, we lived on a steep hill and I was laboriously shovelling the snow off the pavement outside our house and our neighbours` house, when two women pedestrians passed by. One of them remarked in a loud voice to the other "I wish people wouldn`t do that". I was so taken aback, I didn`t respond at the time, but I could certainly think of a few things to say now!

Trik | I can fully understand why she said it, although it was a bit tactless whilst you were out there working hard to clear the snow. Having lived in Aviemore for almost 17 years, I've had a fair amount of experience in walking in snow and ice.
Our little pavement plough clears and then salts the pavements and that's pretty easy to walk on, unless you get a further, deep fall of snow which turns slushy and horrible and slippy. Really good exercise for your thigh muscles though.
However, where you get pavements cleared but not salted, as is usually the case when people clear outside their garden, then walking can be tricky, even in walking boots. If it then freezes, it can be a nightmare. So, I'd rather walk in a few inches of snow, than cleared but unsalted areas. |

It was this situation I was trying to prevent by clearing and salting the footpath - just as I have, today, salted the sheet ice outside the house we now live in.
