| | | Coast to Coast Walk 2009 For next year, I'm planning a Coast to Coast Walk. This is because I only did it half-way back in May 2007, suffering from a very painful knee. I was going to do a double Coast to Coast bike-ride, but thought the walk would be better. (last year's double C2C bike ride never got done)
I'm planning the walk in April or May and really need to get some training done, although I'm camping with maybe the odd youth hostel here & there. I've just got a new tent called the Laser Comp by Terra Nova and a new Berghaus 65 + 10 litre C7-1 series ruck-sac, so no excuses for not doing it.
When I did the walk in May 2007, I think my down-fall was lack of training, too much gear, pushing the pace in the Lakes section. So I plan to take it steady this time and take all day over the walk, also Julia Bradbury has a new series about the Coast to Coast next Spring, should be good.
So the count-down is roughly 20 weeks or 5 months. I'll be interested to hear about anyone else who has done Coast to Coast part or all of it, this is my 5th time and don't think I would get tired of it, being a superb walk. |

The supplied carbon ones are O.K., but not as 'grippy' as the titanium ones. Titanium tent pegs - Alpkit Shop

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 I did the C to C as a raw prawn 17 year old in 1989. The weather from Grasmere onwards was wonderful. We took a detour via Helvellyn and that was my first time over Striding Edge. My favourite section was from Shap to Richmond (it takes in my beloved Pennines). I thoroughly enjoyed it, though not as much as the Pennine Way, which I did in 1990. Again, it was a cracking summer that year as well and it was hot and sunny virtually each day apart from the whopping 29 mile crossing of the Cheviots on the last day, when it rained. The summers of 1989 and 1990 were very happy days for me.
I hope you have a great walk.
Regards, Chris |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 I have walked the West Highland Way twice, once quickly the other slowly - slowly is better, more enjoyable as you see more. How far is your walk and how long do you think you will take and are you camping, B&B or a mix of both??.
Good luck

Good luck | Thanks. The West Highland Way is probably my next walk after the Coast to Coast. I've heard some good reports about the West Highland Way, Scotland is a firm favourite of mine
The Coast to Coast is 200 miles, I've worked out a 11 day walk, but probably have a couple of rest days included. I'm camping, but hope to include a couple of youth hostels or b&b. |

Regards, Chris | I first did Coast to Coast in 1990, then in 1991 & 1992. 1992 was a East to West crossing and 2007, in which I only made it as far as Kirkby Stephen due to a bad knee This is my reason for having another go at it, I will just go easy and slower this time and enjoy the scenery a bit more. |

Jim | Yes, Jim. The original Laser Comp pegs were carbon fibre and Terra Nova had a lot of complaints about them. The pegs that came supplied with mine are Titanium, but are very tiny and coated orange. I did have the Laser (2 man version) but kept the titanium pegs which were longer and better. Although I could do with some extra peg's such Alpkit's. Cheers. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
