| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 Well, I watched it on i Player and I enjoyed it. It was nice that it included clips of when Eric Robson filmed it with the great AW himself. I hope Julia Bradbury has better weather than they did then - the Lake District section was almost a total washout from what I remember. |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 Yes, Pete. I have Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk, both on VHS & DVD. There is a part on there which is rather sad, that when A.W. was struggling on a certain fellside, the rain was pouring down and said that the Lakeland Mountain's were crying, because it was it's his last walk on them.
We owe it to A.W. For such a brilliant walk, the best. |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 I did part of the C to C four years ago, from Richmond to Robin Hood's Bay. The part where you used to be able to see Fylingdales (before they dismantled it) was completely fog bound - couldnt see more than about 10 feet in front of you. The path was soggy. But it was well worth it - seeing the sea at Robin Hood's Bay was a wonderful feeling - and having a big cooed breakfast at that little cafe at the top of the hill ebfore the descent into the Bay itself....mmmmmm! |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 The Early Warning Station "Golf Balls" bring back some nice memorys for me, the present one is not the same. Times I was doing the Lyke Wake Walk in 1970, 1972, 1985, 1986, 1987 and when I spent a week in Beck Hole nr Goathland in July 1983, what a belting summer that was. |

Our son who is walking the Ten Tors is interested in how many miles a day you are aiming to walk.
Must be really close for you now, have a great walk.

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 No problem, hobble. This is how my daily walking miles will look like in a nutshell.
St. Bees - Ennerdale Bridge 14 miles.
Ennerdale Bridge - Borrowdale 15 miles.
Borrowdale - Grasmere 9 miles.
Grasmere - Patterdale 8 miles.
Patterdale - Shap 16 miles.
Shap - Bent's Farm 16 miles.
Bent's Farm - Keld 18 miles.
Keld - Grinton YH 14 miles.
Grinton YH - Layland's Farm 20 miles.
Layland's Farm - Ingleby Cross 14 miles
Ingleby Cross - Lion Inn 21 miles.
Lion Inn - Grosmont 13 miles.
Grosmont - Robin Hood's Bay 16 miles.
Although, I'm booked into Grasmere & Grinton Youth Hostels, just to get a decent hot shower and a good fried breakfast. The rest will be camp-sites, I could shorten the day between Grinton & Layland's Farm for Catterick Bridge, making that 16 miles. But I know Layland's Farm is a nice place to camp and the terrain is very easy after Richmond.
I may push onto Littlebeck from Lion Inn instead of Grosmont which would make that day 17 miles, but would make a short day to Robin Hood's Bay of 12 miles and probably go straight home instead of camping at Robin Hood's Bay, Bank Holiday Week-End you know. Then why spolit a good thing by rushing it, That was a hard lesson learned on my last C2C walk in 2007, knacked up my knees nearly.
Your Son should have a go at the Coast to Coast Walk, he will love it. |

| | | Re: Coast to Coast Walk 2009 I know I've said it before, but good luck with your Coast-to-Coast walk, foxy mars. I really hope you have some decent weather as that makes a lot of difference to the enjoyment of a walking holiday. Looking forward to hearing how you get on. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
