Rosedale, North Yorks

Just thought I'd tell you about a circular walk we did this week from Rosedale in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Headed up out of the village and into Rosedale East, taking a right up through a farm and then followed the walk along the redundant railtrack which used to carry iron ore. There's still much evidence of this mining industry to be seen on this walk, together with stunning views of the valley and the opposite moorland side of the valley.

About 2p.m. we pitched up at the Lion Inn at Blakey, where we indulged in a spot of refreshment, before continuing our journey back to Rosedale. Perhaps 11/12 miles in all, and with curlew, hawks, pippits and gulls together with unusuall mosses, bog flowers etc. to be seen en route, I can highly recommend this for a day's walking.

On the subject of Rosedale, and the advent of moorland fires, it was sad to see so many fag ends dropped on the walk, both from the point of view of litter and the possibility of starting a fire.
