| | | On yer bike! With an overcast sky, although still extremely hot, we set out this morning on a local bike ride.
Within just 5 minutes we were surrounded by fields showing in all their glory the efforts of the farming community, with acres of cereals turning gold, newly sheared sheep, and other crops developing. Soon came across Newbridge quarry and peering over a gate were pleasantly surprised http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...age-12842.html by the sight of vehicles which appear to be landscaping and restoring much of the quarried ground. Some slopes were already covered in grass and shrubs had begun to take root; further in the distance, new trees had been planted.
Onwards for a few miles, then off the beaten track and progressing by foot, the 'silence' was wonderful. Of course, it isn't really silent with all the birdsong, grasshopper activity, leaves rustling etc. but there was no interuption of thought by mechanical sound. (In fact, there was very little obvious thought - just being out there tends to empty the mind of trivia). We explored the odd sideroad and lane and then it was back home (downhill most of the way - no helmet! We were probably travelling as fast as the steam train, running on parallel rails, on occasions).
Next time, we'll turn left instead of right and see where that takes us.

| | | Re: On yer bike! The great thing with a bike is that you see and hear everything ..... even if you have lost 75% of your hearing like me! The only thing that they have still to invent is a puncture proof tyre that is as good as a normal tyre. In the meantime take a puncture repair out fit and a little can of tyreweld with you. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
