| | | OS Select Maps Has anyone tried these? Any advantages/disadvantages over stadard maps?
OS Select, our unique, personalised paper map, has undergone a transformation.
What is OS Select?
OS Select is a bespoke map that allows you to site centre your favourite spot. Put your house at the centre or make your favourite route the focal point. The choice is yours.
Create either 1: 25 000 scale OS Select – Explorer, ideal for walkers and cyclists, or 1:50 000 scale OS Select – Landranger, perfect for planning your outdoors adventures.
What’s changed?
The map has undergone a complete transformation. The product has always been innovative, but now it is even more attractive, hard wearing and functional.
The new OS Select map paper is the same as that used for our OS Explorer Maps and OS Landranger Maps. It is more durable and can be used in all types of weather conditions, perfect for the changeable British climate!
The new map will be more slimline; more exciting imagery will be used, making it a great gift for the map lover in your life; and the environmentally friendly packaging will appeal to the eco conscious. The map paper and packaging is from a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forest or made from a minimum of 80% recyclable material. |

| | | Re: OS Select Maps I got one of these a few years ago when we were asked if we fancied being a supplier, which we might still do I guess.
The biggest advantage is that you choose the centre of your map so you don't have to buy several maps like you previously had to do if you lived near the edge of one of the set map sheets.

Stu | Or, in my case, by the corners of four sheets! |

| | | Re: OS Select Maps I've used them recently to get a map centered on a specific location to be framed for a friend's wedding present, so I chose the flat version.
I was impressed by the ease of choosing everything, including the title you want if you have a folded version right through the whole buying process. It took a little over a week from ordering to delivery.
Would definitely use it again. |

I've often moaned about this fact, but I've just realised that's it is actually an advantage for me. It depends on how large an area you're interested in - if that area will fit on one map then obviously it's best to be in the centre of a map (or else you'll need to order one of these new OS Select maps), and being in a corner would be a real pain.
But if like me, you're interested in an area slightly larger than will fit on one map, then being in a corner is great! I've bought the four maps whose corners meet near my home, and they cover a good area all around me, certainly all the area I can possibly walk directly from my home. Now if my home was in the centre of a map, to cover the same area that these four maps do I'd actually have to purchase 7 or 8 maps - the one my home is on and all the ones bordering it (they'd cover a lot of extra area that I wouldn't be interested in).
Just trying to think positively (a first for me!). | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
