| | | Help with snowdon hiking trip Hello all!
Sorry i havent been here for awhile haven't had anything to talk about on here. Anyway its the start of the summer holidays and it always gets boring so i have asked my brother (alex) if we can hike up Mount Snowdon and he says he hasn't got good navigational skills and im in charge of organising it because hes got a lot to do and is busy so i was wondering if you guys can tell me all the things i will need to organise such as our route where i can find a local area map and bearing and stop and things.
thanks in advance it will be a great help.

It isn't the most thrilling route, but I'd say the safest, though you probably will have to retrace your steps, or come back on the railway.
Llanberis is also a good Snowdonia 'centre', where you can get maps and things.
Although the best Snowdon route, dont do the 'Snowdon Horseshoe' as it isn't a place for the inexperienced. I think I have a reasonable head for heights, but Crib Goch made my knees knock like a pair of castanets.

| | | Re: Help with snowdon hiking trip Hi, i think i did the route Chrisjb is talking about a few years ago and to say we were under-prepared would be an understatement
Lots of walkers were there that day and they had everything maps, walking sticks the lot. We just treat it like a walk in the park but saying that it wasn't difficult the route was a path which for the best part was really easy going there were times where the path wasn't so obvious where it met a bit of scree or a stream etc but this was only briefly and the bonus was you could get a pint at the top. Mind being teatotal, mine was a coke
Coming down was the worse it gets the knees if you know what i mean

Just the usual, compass (and the knowledge to uses it), decent waterproofs, spare jumper, food and drink. And most important, don't be afraid to turn back if the weather closes in or you are unsure of the route.

Would you guys say that the Llanberis Path is suitable for children? |

It is the easiest of the paths to the summit, but it is still a long hard walk and shouldn’t be underestimated. All of the usual mountain walking precautions should be taken. I’ve seen many a family follow the Llanberis path and have a great day out.
Steve.

| | | Re: Help with snowdon hiking trip Thanks Steve. I think if I made a full day of it withthe promise of a train ride down it could be done.
