| | | Camping Stoves Can anyone recommend one that last for more than a few days? The last one just about managed to boil 5 kettles with enough water for about two mugs in each time and it said 5 to 15 hours on the side of the canister |

| | | Re: Camping Stoves I used a trangia system for years, excellent piece of kit, light, very portable and great if there's just the two of you. Fueled with meth spirits.

| | | Re: Camping Stoves Thanks for that information - think there's a Millets near where i'm going to be..or a blacks anyway??? and filling up with petrol will be better than lots of gas tubs. Can you use methane in them? - I've a couple of friends up there that might be able to provide me with quite a bit
Diane - what is a trangia system??? |

| | | Re: Camping Stoves Trangia Kök - Trangia Stoves 25 Series UL
Hi Tufftie, I hope the above link works but a general search for Trangia stoves on google would get you some more info. The trangia is a set of different sized cooking tins that all fit together in a nice compact pot. Its an extremely light and compact system. Blacks should stock them at a reasonable price. I cant sing the praise of this piece of kit loud enough, when cooking the pots can be stacked in order to boil water and heat up food. Metholated spirits is a cheaper option than gas and probably lasts longer.

| | | Re: Camping Stoves Trangia stoves! I got one, 27 series UL when Nevisport nearly went bust. I also got the Trangia gas converter, which is a lot quicker than meths. Although, the Trangia is used for my cycle-camping trips which go's nicely inside the Ortlieb Sport-Packer panniers. For back-packing I have the Primus EF Gravity stove, alongside my MSR Titanium kettle and mug. |

| | | Re: Camping Stoves If you _must_ have a Trangia type stove, wait until Lidil have their clones in. The last time they had them in they were about £8 instead of around £30+ for a Trangia.
I've got a Trangia, a Trangia clone and an Optimus Trapper 81 - all meths stoves - but I don't like using meths stoves! Meths is much lower in heating (calorific) value than butane, propane, paraffin or petrol. It's also heavier per unit volume, smells and I think dangerous. If you spill some on the grass and it catches light, you can't see the flame in the sunshine. In spite of the gizmo you can put on the Trangia burner, it's also difficult to control.
You might like to consider an old fashioned brass Primus or Optimus (other makes as well) paraffin stove. They work well, are fuel efficient, fun to use and can be had cheaply on the popular auction site, or car boot sale.
An Optimus 111 is also a very nice stove, which folds up into a steel box. They can be had as petrol, paraffin or triple fuel models (petrol/paraffin/meths), but as they're expedition stoves, can be expensive - especially new.
I've lost count of how many stoves I've got!
