If so.... |

| | | Re: human remains found in tent I recently found a tent all pitched up in the middle of a wooded area locally. Luckily there wasn't a body or belongings inside and no owner within the vicinity. There were a few beer cans strewn around which I picked up and have since been back a couple of times, and it's exactly how I found it the first time so can only assume that someone was sleeping rough and decided to return home or seek help.
In my wonders off the beaten path I have certainly found some odd things in the past which I'd love to know how they got there |

| | | Re: human remains found in tent Many years ago (yes, I'm long in the toothg now) I was doing some avalanche training in the Cairngorms with my search dog. We had been asked to keep an eye out for a guy that was possibly missing. He was apparently kipping in a bothy and walking the mountains, but hadn't been seen for a week or so. We were having a look at one of the corries where there had been an avanche. The previous day some of the dogs had gone through the area and had given an indication, so we returned to do a thorough search. 3 dogs, including mine, gave a weak indication at a particular point, so we got out the avalanche probes and went over the ground carefully. The probes were not long enough for the depth of snow, so we left and let the police know the exact location. When the snow finally cleared, the body was found. It had been lying under around 30 feet of snow. It still amazes me that the dogs caught a wiff of scent! |

| | | Re: human remains found in tent Not wanting to make light of this tragic story, but rather to find a silver lining in the cumulonimbus, I find it heartening, as someone who has toyed with the idea of wild camping, that it is still possible on this tiny island of ours to pitch a tent in the wilderness and remain unnoticed for so long. My impression from reading about camping wild in the UK, away from organised camp sites, is that you must take great pains, even in Scotland, to find a place where you can pitch a tent in the wild and remain unbothered by landowners or other campers. |

From what I can tell from the update Tufftie I think you could be right. BBC NEWS | UK | Scotland | Edinburgh, East and Fife | Missing man's body found in tent
my sympathies go out to his family.
Ian.
