Any snow in the Lakes?

Has anyone been up to the Lakes in the past couple of days? I'm interested to know if any snow is lying on the tops? The wife and I are off to Patterdale for a couple of days and I want to introduce her to the joys of Striding Edge and Helvellyn, but if it's too snowy underfoot, I'll plan an alternative.

Regards, Chris

We were on Black Fell above Tarn Hows on Wednesday. There was snow on Bowfell , Fairfield and the Helvellyn ridge but not great amounts. If this weather holds I think it will be soon gone but who can say about the weather.

Re: Any snow in the Lakes?

Cheers Kidsty. We are going tomorrow and planning to do Helvellyn on Monday. The weather forecast for the next few days is excellent. It should be great if their predictions are correct.
Great pictures by the way.

Regards, Chris

Re: Any snow in the Lakes?

Got back yesterday. Did Helvellyn via the edges on Monday in the most gloriously sunny late winter conditions (saw some Snow Bunting on the top too). A rather fearsome cornice still clung stubbornly to the edge above Red Tarn. This caused a problem descending to Swirral Edge and it was a very awkward fifteen feet or so. For this short stretch an ice axe would've come in handy.
Still, the weather made for a truly memorable experience.

Regards, Chris

Re: Any snow in the Lakes?

We were up Beacon Fell, just south of Coniston on Wednesday and it was so warm that we were walking in t-shirts for most of the day.
