| | | What`s your favourite campsite? Ok so it`s only January but I`m hoping this year is drier than the last.I`m aiming to get the tent up in March/April and seeking some insperation.Where is your favourite campsite and why is it special to you?Do you prefer the rugged quiet campsite or the 5* luxury? |

| | | Re: What`s your favourite campsite? I like the quite simple sites really, though a shower is a must (especially for the missus). One I really like is Holme Farm at Horton in Ribblesdale in the Yorkshire Dales. It's pretty simple, but the village although tiny, really caters for walkers and Chris (the campsite owner) is a good bloke. A couple of decent pubs and the famous Pen-y-ghent Cafe are nearby too.
It's a good idea for a thread this, as I'm always looking for new campsites to try. I can cut and paste all the ones I fancy.
Regards, Chris

| | | Re: What`s your favourite campsite? Is it cheating having 2? Theres one in Wales at the bottom of Snowden thats a national trust farm 4 miles from bedgelert, its basic theres toilets and sinks, a big pot and wood supplied for fires at £5 and its £2.50 pp honesty box. The other is in scotland on the west highland way I used it first as stop over when doing the way ,but have used since as a base or just stop off, and it has everything on site inc bar/food/shop. Both though have wonderfull veiws. Hafod Y Llan (it is a campsite honest, hard to find if you dont know) For a bed and breakfast come to Beinglass Campsite Bed and Breakfast - beinglascampsite.co.uk |

| | | Re: What`s your favourite campsite? We are keen campers and go to a range of different sites,my favourites are always close to the coast. We have four children so our only experience is with child friendly sites.
We go to a campsite in Mwnt cardigan bay Pembrokeshire West Wales. At the bottom of the site the dolphins swim by daily, there are also seals that are easily spotted. It is a farmers field most of the year but does have electric hook ups.A great campsite very rugged and the showers only have a dribble of hot water but the views are amazing.
We have walked past the campsite at Cranntock near Newquay in Cornwall and it has always been on our to do list as it`s much quieter than other sites in the area and the walk into Newquay is much easier than getting into the car.
We also go to Herston Yard in Dorset every year this I would class a 3* as it has bar, shop,Laundrette and lovely toilets and showers. They allow camp fires and all the facilities are away from the campers field. The kids usually have a large area to play in and they always look forward to going.
Another popular one with the kids is Trevornick near Newquay Cornwall. This site is 5* and is more of an amuzment park than a campsite with fishing ponds, golf course next door beach a short walk through the dunes indoor playarea for the kids, hire shop the list is endless. They do charge extra for facilities.
Keep them coming and you can have as many as you like. |

its got the basics but still feels like your out in the wilds-when its not too busy that is.. there are great walks from the campsite & the wildlife is fantastic; reptiles, hobbies, deer, woodpeckers, raft spiders, nightjars etc, all seen without getting in the car..

| | | Re: What`s your favourite campsite? There's a really nice one in Kelynack - just outside of St Just in Cornwall. It's in the Cot Valley, which is beautiful and just a mile walk down to the cove - where you quite often get to see dolphins. There's also glow worms and it's really good for birds. Oh and there's a proper bubbling brook at the bottom of it. |
