Grand Prix widow again!!!

So after a great 'heads-up' from Rob Sutton I took myself off to Stocks Reservoir for the afternoon

What a great place! and only 3/4hr from me - thanks Rob

Well apart from the walkers and mountain bikers trying to scare everything off it was an eventfull afternoon and so still and quiet too - no wind at all!!!

Couple of views for ya....

The only butterfly found today a Speckled Wood...

Snuck into one of the two bird hides and got a rather bad piccy of the cormorants and a heron - soz. Also saw Barnacle and Canada Geese, Pochard and Great Crested Grebe.

In this rather lovely piece of woodland there were tonnes of different fungi which I will post for ID on the fungi thread...

But found this on a tree stump...

and these in the mossy areas under the conifers...

Had to get home and get the roast beef on, so had to cut my stint a bit short and some idiot nearly smashed into me by not stopping on a junction (heart attack! ). So there you go... another day out with Cazzie!

Nice pictures. Looks like you had better weather than they had in Japan.

Hmmm... well hubby watched it during the night and again at lunchtime!

It certainly is worth a visit or two. It's and 8 mile walk right around the reservoir through woodlands and fields but I didn't do it all today as I was getting my bearings (plus I didn't want to get lost lol!) The only thing that did and still does annoy me is why the 'eck they have to put stone chippings down on some of the pathways?!? - it makes sooooo much bloomin' noise even when walking slowly and trying not to make any sound

Highly recommended for a day out!

Thanks Jen! Stopped the car on a bridge to get that one on my way home and funnily enough my camera just didn't want to take that snap but I pushed the shutter button down anyways and lo!

Have you checked the Salmon jumping at Stainforth Force:

There were a few there this weekend but you are probably best waiting until we've had some rain.

Scaleber Force - on the little road that leads out of the Market Place in Settle up to Kirby Malham is another waterfall that is worth checking out - it looks better once the leaves have gone from the trees (and the woods further along the track have long-eared owls):

It's better - there's never anybody there! You do have to get quite low down in the gorge to get this photo though which can be a bit dodgy when it's wet.

Look forward to seeing your photos, especially if you manage to get a leaping salmon - I've been trying for years.

Hurrah! I used to work as a manageress at the tearooms at Aysgarth about 14 yrs ago - mecca for pesky tourists (sorry peeps!) and sadly I was just too late to see Kevin Costner do his bit there whilst filming Robin Hood dammit!

OK, I'll make sure I've got my clamp-ons and a rope attached to a tree lol!

An interesting day out this. I had to wait a good couple of hours on a visit last year, but when a beaut finally leapt up, it was well worth it. Alas the missus was faffing in her rucksack and missed it!

Regards, Chris
