| | | Re: Can someone explain? Hi Stuart,
I've just had a look at the PM you sent. I can understand where your coming from but as some of my walks can contain as many as 60 images I think I would find it nearly impossible to upload them to the Gallery.
Is there any sort of compromise?....I have enjoyed my brief spell on WAB and would obviously like to continue.
I do not use Photobucket , Flicker or any of the other picture sharing sites but have a "proper" website that will not disappear overnight.
Yours,
Dave

| | | Re: Can someone explain? It's possible, but we're reluctant to set a precedent that could lead to the forum just having lots of intro posts. Essentially, we want posts in the forum to be complete and not reference external sites that could disappear at any time - either intentionally or through server problems, expired domain names/URLs etc.
I'll look at the setup for the blog and see if there's an easier way of being able to post images along with the content.
Stuart

Stuart | Stuart,
Having just paid the hosting company I use the fees for the next 2 years I can assure you that the only way my site will disappear is if we stop walking which is not, I hope, likely for some time yet.
The site is non-commercial and my only reason for setting it up was to share my love of the Outdoors and walking with others.
If it would help in any way I could place a link to the WAB website/forum on the Links page of my site.
Hope this goes some way to help you in your decision.
In the shorter term what is my position in posting further walks?....I am reluctant to do so (a) If they are immediately removed
(b) Aggravate the situation.
Regards,
Dave

We still don't really want to set a precedent as, maybe not surprisingly, there are lots of people who'd like to do a similar thing and think we'd just end up with masses of intro posts and not much real content in some parts of the site. Unfortunately, we've been here several times in the past where the reliability of external sites have been apparently a dead certainty, then the server's gone down, the admin is taken ill, even the mighty Yahoo images recently announce it was it is to close down so all their links will soon die off etc.
We also have to look at what degree we can allow posts to be made that aren't just an advert to an external site. A post that's simply just something like 'go to my site to view some new images' isn't really what we're after.
In answer to your quesiton, we'll probably remove these sort of posts in the future. We're looking to set up the blog facility which should help members share their stories and events and don't really want to have a mix of the two.
Stuart
