| | | Cazzies Day out! Hi all!
Just had to get my butt out today seeing as the weather was nice and was hoping to find some waterfowl Went to Barden reservoirs near me which are on the Bolton Abbey estate land. There's 2 of them upper and lower and approx a 4 mile round walk as there's no road access to either of them.
So here we go.... first off the bottom reservoir....
This was the only place I saw a single water bird, a solitary goosander...
There's a huge gulley which runs round the perimeter and in the spring it's heaving with frogs and toads - they just love it!
View from holding pool up towards the walk to the 2nd reservoir...
Spied this kestrel? with a kill. Sorry not a good piccy but never mind...
Heard many wrens, grouse and pipits along the way and luckily this chappie stopped to pose nicely for me...
Made it to the top and here's the bigger of the 2 reservoirs...
I was well miffed as there was not ONE bird on or near the water at all! I was at least expecting a few geese or sandpipers or similar, but nothing, diddly squat!
Sussed out how to use the timer on my camera at last, so here's me!... and yes I know the pic is wonky, but then so was the wall I put the camera on lol!
Descended down through the moors and stumbled across this peacock sunning itself on the path...
Took one last look behind at where I'd been and the sun was shining just on the top reservoir!
Walked a fair old way today and thoroughly enjoyed myself - had the place all to myself which was lovely!

Must say I don't remember these waters from all my many family holidays in North Yorkshire. I must say I'm impressed how the water stays in at such an angle. We could have done with some of that sticky water around here, it would have stopped a lot of the flooding.
So any idea where all the birds are.
Once again great pics, lucky you being a domestic goddess, is that what you called yourself and being able to get out and about through the week.

Sounds like a fabulous day. My family and I, although softie southerners, are very fond of North Yorkshire too. We have visited Bolton Abbey several times but not the reservoirs. Shame the birds were all shy but you got some lovely pics of the beautiful scenery anyway.

Dave.P - I'm a southerner too originally (from Surrey) but the Dales just kept calling us back....
Got no idea where all the water fowl is - Who's got'em then?

Was just lucky with the weather (hence waterproof tied round my waist just in case), no rain but was a tad windy on my ascent though - made my eyes water!

| | | Re: Cazzies Day out! Nice shots Cazzie, just a shame the water birds were away for the day.
I was stuck at home waiting for a delivery, which was delivered at 3:30pm. To make matters worse, the thing is faulty so will have to go back and waste another day waiting! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
