| | | Scotland for Easter Thursday sees me travelling up to Scotland for Easter, returning on Monday evening.
I will be staying in Fife and am looking for suggestions as to places to visit. I am looking for good walks and some photographic opportunities. I will be taking the car so can travel some distances.
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers |

Cheers | You could try the local chicken farms or the local harbours in the area - like the media have. Then if there is a small chance of catching the infection you'll be sure to spread it around! Just like they did with foot and mouth. |

| | | Re: Scotland for Easter I'm sorry Boddie, I've just re-read this post and I don't think I came accross the way I wanted to. It is no reflection on yourself, it was the media that get my back up! It's happens every time I hear the word 'Fife' at the moment! It is a lovely part of the country - can't help you with suggestions though. Should have kept my mouth shut, or posted in the other thread! |

| | | Re: Scotland for Easter Alan, I would never take offence as I know you better than that Besides, I don't get upset. Lifes too short. I won't be going anywhere near that harbour, much to the disappointment of my old mans auntie and uncle who live within half a mile of it. I have no desire to get involved or to be party to the media provided circus. Previously I have only travelled as far north as Dundee but I really fancy checking west Scotland. There's a nice big hill between Dunfermline and Kinross that my uncle has always wanted to climb, so I'll be up for that, probably at the weekend, so am looking for somewhere to walk Friday and Monday day before setting off back down. Maybe take in a loch but really fancy the hills. We have hail here now. Luckily I have invested in some decent clothing (out of season apparently) |

| | | Re: Scotland for Easter It might be worth popping to Loch Leven while your there, you get all sorts of birds this time of year. I always tend to stay at Speyside when I go up there, so have got to know the northern Cairngorms area quite well. If you do go accross to the west, It's always worth a trip through Glencoe - even in bad weather. |

| | | Re: Scotland for Easter You may need the decent gear, the southern uplands and Cheviot are covered in snow today. We went out onto Kielderhead yesterday and got caught in a blizzard - not nice.
You probably know this but the BTO are running an upland bird survey for hillwalkers, if you see any Ptarm's, Ouzels etc, I'm sure they'd like to know!

| | | Re: Scotland for Easter I'd recommend a visit to Tentsmuir Forest near Leuchars. It's a National Nature Reserve on the Tay Estuary. See here and here for more details. I visited last summer and although it was packed with people very few ventured into the forest (they were all BBQing on the beach and car park). Corsican and Scots pine make for an interesting mix with some interesting wildlife.
As previously mentioned Loch Leven is also worth a visit ( RSPB Vane Farm reserve or NNR here) or how about a trip to the Isle of May? Boats go from Anstruther.
Loch Garten and Abernethy Forest Nature Reserve (Ospreys and Capercaillies respectively) are also just about "do able" from Dundee but it would be a very long day. You could try to go up Ben Chonzie near Crieff? Fairly easy access from Perth/Dundee see here for details.
Hope that gives you some ideas. |

| | | Re: Scotland for Easter Suggest a visit to the RSPB site at Vane Farm, Loch Leven (see RSPB web site for further details). Less than an hour from Fife on the other side of the Forth there are some nice walks and wildlife to be seen along the East Lothian coast. That is around Gullane, North Berwick.etc
There is a bird sanctuary at Aberlady Bay which is quite near to Gullane.
A bit nearer to Fife but still on the South side of the Forth a vist to the village of Cramond on the East side of Edinburgh is worth a visit. No shortage of birds there also a nice walk along the banks of the River Almond. |

| | | Re: Scotland for Easter Fantastic
Thanks guys. I will have a good look over the information and make some informed decisions. I have been stuck in hospital all day today and had three cases cancel so need to get out and get some fresh air. I am getting excited now and am even looking forward to the drive up there from Brum.
Roll on early weekend |
